You might want to scratch it up with some fine steel wool first, but it's not essential.

I would not paint the Ultrakote, it will not come out good in my opinion. Why didn't you just get the color you wanted? And I would not paint bare wood. You will get alot of fuel and residue on the bellypan, please wait for me to cover mine and follow my steps.

I have painted Ultracote and bare balsa with LustreKote and it works just fine.

The only problem is that LustreKote is difficult to work with on ANY surface.
