How to make fuel?
#2
Go for it. Glow Fuel is just Methanol (the main component), Oil (Synthetic, or Castor, or a blend), and NitroMethane. If you can find all of those components, then you can mix them at whatever ratio you want. Most of the time it is about 16-20% Oil, 0-20% Nitro and the rest Methanol (By volume).

Where would be a source to purchase these components? Seems like we burn lots of fuel. You know how much it takes to lite the fire on the wrecked birds....

I looked into it and you need to mix a lot more than one gallon at a time to make it worthwhile. To get decent prices I would have had to drive a long way to several suppliers. In the end I just organized a group buy in my club for a 55 gallon drum of fuel of 15%. We ordered it from S&W Fuels in PA, they shipped it to RI. Including the cost of shipping it was under $10/gallon. No way I could have mixed it myself for that price.

You can get the Alcohol and Nitro at most real auto speed shops. I have found 15 gallon cans of alcohol and one gallon cans of nitro at the Super Shop. Klotz oil is a blend and you can get it at most hobby shops or Tower.
I belonged to two clubs that did the club buy and we were able to buy a pallet of Powermaster 15% for a case price that was about 13-14 dollars a gallon. That was easier then brewing your own.
Two months ago my LHS had PM 15% on sale for $13.00 a gallon, then on the last sale it was almost $20.00??? If it is still marked up like that then I will be getting some guys together this winter and brewing my own too. I have also been going back to gas power, a lot cheaper and a lot less support gear you have to take to the field with you.

I've known people that mix their own and I've looked into it. Like you say though it is often more cost effective and less hassle to make a bulk fuel purchase than head downtown to buy all the components and mix it.
