From: Laurel, MD,
I have a tach, and I even use it once in a while.
I'm curious, why do you feel you need a tach?
Depending on your application, any of the low-cost digital units will work quite well. I have a 10+yr old Tower tach myself.

I think Hobbico do a voltmeter in which the load can be swtiched on or off.

It really depends on how much and where you are going to use it. If you think you are going to use it a lot and maybe in less than ideal lighting conditions then it might be an idea to splash out the extra on a TNC tach.
