If you are considering a real flight sim then you can buy a car. I have been homeless in the past had all my household and plane stuff in a storage place. I have bought cars that will move on its own power for a $100.00 it may not be pretty but it moves you just have to look and haggle with the seller. I drove a Geo Metro for a while I could get two forty size airplanes in it. Not pretty but great on gas. Lousy for hauling airplanes. The real flight sim is $200.00 Take $150 and go buy a beater car that moves and then buy a simple simulator on ebay for $20 and you have enough left over for some gas.

If you have been without a car for five years there is alot more here than just a ride to a local field.

Just my thoughts I am a year younger than you. Be 49 on the 5th of Sept.

The guys at the field don't care what you drive they just want you to come to the field and have fun flying. You contact a club member especially your instructor he will probably come get you!! I know I would if I was there. Because I have ''been there, done that.''

Tony
You Know what, When I was in pinal county Az I was trying buy a car I managed to save $800 for half way decent car but when I went to go pay for it that day that guy sold the $800 car
and a car cost more than a real flight sims
I don't wish to go into detail about what happened to me in the past but I was homeless myself
I was ilegaly homeless.

In that case, I would be one of the first to volunteer to give you a ride. I might even let you use my fuel. I might also have 2 lunches accidentally packed. I appreciate hard workers, even ones that might have fallen on hard times.
I be more than happy to pay for gas.
At least that I can do to help out.
I lost my job in pinal county,
due to the ression, even some people have a hard to finding work in these times.
when I was working I did it stright forward never goofed off ,
I don't how long this job is going to keep me on because of my age,

So was I. The newspaper and craigs list are great for finding beater cars they are out there still. I have a 83 ford pickup for sale it runs and rolls down the road with a camper shell The cruise even worked the last time I drove it. I used to use it for hauling my airplanes. I have good extra tires for it too. $400.00 is my asking price I have had many people look at it. But all I hear is "I will be back with the cash." Well nobody comes back. Cash is king when dealing with people with low cost cars that have had them for sale for awhile. Prices can be greatly reduced when you are serious and have the cash in hand. When you are serious and grab your wallet and say I will give you X amount right now nine times out of ten they will let it go. If someone came and looked at my truck and said I will give you three hundred cash right now I would say sold and give them the title and keys. I am not being mean or cruel here. I understand your plight i have been there but I took control and made something happen. But you also have to take a little control too. This old truck gets 8mpg but see in your case you can walk to work so you only need to drive it for other things so it is not a huge deal. The deals are out there I see them all the time all you have to do is look. Many of the $500 to $800 dollar cars can be picked up for half the asking price if you wave the cash in their face. I have done it many times. You just have to be firm and serious at that moment and if they see that in you You win. The higher the asking price the more wiggle room you have. You don't go back and forth you just say one time "I will give you X" if they say no then walk away not saying a word. I have done that and been stopped as the seller changed their mind when they seen me start to walk away. Or they come back with an amount I will pay. But I never pay their asking price unless it is already rock bottom someone who is desperate for quick cash at that moment.

Never mind ... after reading the other post he did that Ken closed i guess he really thinks that the club he does/doesn't belong to should give him a ride .

in the end it's not the club (or anything else) that makes it "hard to get to field" but the person who would be in the car with you , IE : i sure as hell wouldn't want to listen to weird stories about landlords and "stoled" cars on the way to my form of "relaxation" some folk's are just not capable of being normal enough to hang around with .

Voyager , my advice to you is to sell all the airplanes except your foamy (fly that around the Apt. when you can) and save to buy a car , i doubt many folk's are going to step up and come get you , or take you to the field .

regards

if only you were closer.
voyager, i can see why you havent been looking to hard recently for a car. if it would only be needed for the field then it is not a priority, i am guessing that you live on ore near a bus line so you can use that to get groceries. i say talk to whoever trains you and see if he/she is willing to teach you at a local park or open feild on the bus line.

*sigh*

Seriously dood!!

You need to make Google your *first* web site for everything you want to know or need to know. You obviously have internet...... with that previous question, I do not know if I would want you to put your hands any where near a nitro pwrd plane. You are totally oblivious to things going on around you.

You know I've read thru this entire thread plus the one RC Ken closed and it's been a good read. We have here an individual who is the apitomy of modern American Society. Someone who just knows if you stomp your feet loud enough and twist up your hankie just so, that someone will jump up and see to all your needs. I'd give you a ride if you were in my club but I don't think that's what you want. I think you want us all to feel sorry for you and somehow cause the club you claim to belong to, to provide your transportation for you. After all I'm sure you have fallen on hard times and clearly someone else needs to pull your bootstraps for you. We once had a President of our club who thought that somehow the club should get an RV so we could all car pool to the field and when we were there we would have a kitchen to fix meals in and since it was air conditioned we could get out of the heat in the summer. He was a great guy but accomplished nothing. Maybe if your real lucky he'll see this thread and buy You that RV he desired so much!

it's been hard for me to get to the field with my new motorcycle in the driveway.
Give that a few weeks, there's bound to be field time left when you can still fly once it's WAY too cold to ride the bike.

I know, because I'm from Maine.... I still remember selling my motorcycle after 21 years and the guy wondering how it could be in such excellent shape after all those years (showroom). He wasn't from Maine and didn't yet know about all the nice months we had to polish every inch of them in between riding seasons.

And of course, I also flew RC, and now I'm in Texas, and I can pretty much fly here all year. But I find it a little weird that this fella expects that somebody should just up and give him a ride to the field. I'd consider it if he was here, but that part doesn't set well with me.

I agree, Dan Macmurray....After reading a few of his posts I realize that this guy and RC are not a good fit together, and I'm more than a little certain that I can figure out why no rides have been offered. RC is not a cheap hobby, and you have to be a responsible person to handle the costs, which include getting to and from the field. OR adapt your hobby to your environment. Like....RealFlight for this guy. Perhaps he could learn to fly helis on Realflight and then would not need a field. I think the point very soon will be moot anyway, what do you think?

This is going nowhere , it's just become one of those threads that is sad to read .

the OP has problems , problems a ride wont fix .

times for the Mods to step up and put this one to bed , maybe delete it to save the guy any further embarrassment ?

Jim , yes i agree 100% ... sometimes i wonder if a Texas upbringing made me hold folk's to a higher standard

Ok, this has gone far enough. I'm closing this down as it's going nowhere and really doesn't have much to do with the beginner's forum.
