The E-Flite Apprentice is a good one. I am using it now to teach my girlfriends grandpa how to fly. It flies nice and meets your specifications.

OH! Very nice trainer. Exactly what i was looking for. Next question. Why does a radio need so many channels in a rc plane setup? i see those 10 channel setups and wonder why. 4 channels i understand, but beyond that whats the point?

Ailerons - 1 or 2
Elevator - 1 or 2
Throttle - 1
Rudder - 1
Flaps - 1 or 2
Landing gear - 1
Wheel brakes - 1
Ignition kill switch - 1
Smoke system - 1
Scale details like sliding canopy, bomb bay doors and bomb drop, folding wings, etc.
Many of these things are found only on very large models. Brakes are mostly on turbine powered models. Ignition kill switches are on turbine and gasoline powered models.

Mentat,
Great choice! You will not be sorry! Iam glad to see that you have chosen the RIGHT way to enter this hobby! You will be flying that F4U in no time! Not sure where you live, but if it is anywhere but south Texas, Southern California, or Florida, you will be wishing for a longer summer! I know I will be.

Good choice. Much better than the Corsair you were looking at.
Don't get me wrong here. That Corsair is a nice plane, AND would be great after you get a little flight experience under your belt. If you wish, you could get one, put it together, then drool over it and use it as incentive to get up to speed, so to speak...
Hey, we all did it.
I was in training and bought a Ripmax Rapier flying wing. As it turns out, it was a pretty high performer and not necessarily suited for a beginner, but I bought it and looked at the box for about a year before I put it together. And even then, I had my instructor maiden it for me. Good thing I did, too, because as I had it set up, well, it was quite radical. We tamed it down a LOT and I flew it after that. Nice flying plane by the way, but very VERY fast. In fact, we clocked it with a police RADARgun at 121.5 mph at full throttle, about 10 feet above the runway centerline!!!
Good luck with the trainer!
