Default Perry Carburetors?

Has anyone used a Perry carb on a Super Tigre? I have busted the needle valve off of my GS 40 twice now and I am looking for something not only more durable but maybe easier to tune? Thanks!

Not on a Super Tigre but I have one on an Irvine and it is great. The idle is forgiving and the high speed just requires a quick run up and listen for the RPM every trip out. It takes 10 seconds to get ready to fly.

I had a k&b .40 that would not run very well. I put a perry carb. on it and it strighteded right out, I even picked up a little more power out of the .40

They are very good carbs. and easy to tune.

I currently am flying a Super Tigre 46 and and old Super Tigre Blue Head 60 both with Perry carbs. Can't beat 'em.

I have two but not on SuperTigres. I love 'em. They added a few hundred rpm to the top end of the engines I put them on.

One neat feature is they have a small internal fuel reservoir and allow a little extra margin in nose-down maneuvers. Note that when you do a pinch test you have to add about seven seconds for that added fuel pool.

Thanks! For some reason, I've only seen them on Ebay. I guess I just missed them on Tower.

Bob Boumstein carries them, also. That's where I bought mine. www.bobsengines.com

Sounds like you are using a very old ST carb with the wire style NV. Harry Higley produces one that is a bit more sturdy, and can be modified (I have) to have a brass tube sheath that goes over the NV body which helps to strengthen those old carbs.
http://www.harryhigley.com/EngineAccessories2.htm if RCU doesn't change the link. Otherwise search for Harry Higley and sons website.

Next alternative is to get a newer carb with the much better NV assembly. Perry's work well. Now if you go eBay, there was a Perry that was made for a pump. Without the pump it doesn't work as the venturi is far too large. Check before you buy.

No, not yet at least. I am still screwing around with Bob at Sig on that engine though. We spoke this AM.

I have a older Magnum 61 (made by TT in Taiwan) that we maidened on a Twist 40 this weekend, but the carb on it is missing the barrel stop screw. I would buy the screw only, but the hole was filled with solder, which I can likely remove, but we also have an OS 61 Heli engine w/o a carb, so I need one, either way. Same sized carb fits both engines.

Oh, no combat this weekend. To much family still going on to get away for the full day, but we did make to our field for a few hours. and I think that I have some interest in combat. Folks loved the Coro-stang. Aaron and another guy mixed it up (no streamers) in the air for a while and it drew comments from the crowd, so at our next meeting, I'm going to see if I can find some combat interest. I can build airframes and bring them along, but need some engines too. Hey, we'll have to chat soon; I'm thinking LA 40's for cheap, easy to tune/run fun combat.

I was going to comment that it seems nuts to pay $40 for a carb when the engine only costs $60, but then I looked and the ST replacement carb also costs $40. I think I would just buy a spare GS-40.

Thunder Tiger was the same way. I got a used Perry for $15 vs. $60 for the new carb replacement after I damaged the needle valve housing. A replacement piston and cylinder from a seperate and later gravity spike would have cost $5 less than a new engine through Tower! (Luckily, TT replaced them free as warranty even though it was admitted crash damage). The spare parts for many brands are outrageous.

Except when you figure in the 4 gallons of fuel I have run through the stupid thing to break it in.
