Default New flyer and trainer question

HI All,

I am new to flying, and my trainer told me to go for a non-trainer plane.. and choose the Mentor T34 scale with 55OSengine, Low wing.
He said that if i train with him on this plane, that its very stable, easy to fly and lands great.

My question is, is it ture that if your being trained with someone, you do not need to get a high wing, trainer and can go for something like the t34 mentor

Cheers

You can fly a jet if your being trained by someone with a buddy box, etc... . but it will take you a bit longer I would assume to become comfortable and have confidence. If yoiu have access to a sim at the LHS, etc.. give it a try so you know what to expect.

Is this the TopFlit Kit for 200+ beans? For a new flyer / beginner, it seems would be beneficial to start out with an ARF "trainer" type plane for less money which would have more stability and less invested if something bad happened.

Sure it's OK, it's not our or your instructor's $$. Find another instructor.

Happy Landings!

If it is the World Models T-34 then it is not scale at all and will actual fly pretty tame. You can probably learn on one with the right person coaching you.

gazza,

is this the plane he is talking about ? link= http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=EFL4800

if so it is made as a trainer just a low wing trainer like the mustang pts trainer.

it has all the training aids and if its anything like the mustang should fly very well. granted its not the best trainer out there but YES you can learn on it just like any other trainer out there.

EDIT= just noticed the 55OS and realized he meant 55 os not 550 s lol

gazzazh:

I believe that advice of your instructor is not as good as it should be.

If your model of reference is this one:

http://www.airborne-models.com/html/...p?ProductID=46

Note the Key Feature that reads: "Perfect for beginners who have graduated from shoulder wing trainer"

Have you graduated from a regular high or shoulder wing trainer?

If not, following this link, you will find better options:

I always start beginners out with an intermediate plane. They are much easier to fly since you don;t have to fight the self-righting characteristics of a basic trainer.

As long as you've got a buddy box hooked up, go for it.

I started back into this hobby with the Sig Senior Kadet. Big, 80" WS, gentle, it almost flys itself. I practiced with this trainer which is a high wing trainer, and have moved on to low wing trainers. The idea is to get as much stick time as you can, learn, and improve, then go to the more agressive types of aircraft at your own comfort level. Remember, it's your investment out there, so take care of it and fly the plane you are comfortable with, the one you can control to do every command you give it. Have fun, and never take your eye off your airplane.

get this http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=LXCXF4**&P=ML
all i can say is wow, i recommended this plane to someone because of the great deal, 260 for everything minus fuel/field equiptment. when i saw it all i can say is wow, for 260 you think you would get cheap everything, yet their is a aluminum engine mount, lables on everything, very neat radio installation. they only thing i did extra was epoxy the tail and wing. for a trainer it flys very smooth, takeoff's can be a little wierd with the trike gear but other than that its a great plane.
just so you know the engine is really tight for the first half gallon and you wont be able to hand start it, so find someone with a electric starter and it fires right up, and use junk glow plugs because it burns a few during the first flights

thank you all for all the info and help, i went for the Mentor T34, flaps installed, DX7 Spectrum TX&amp;RX, OS.55 Engine. Will fly this baby very soon, and will get back to you with the news. I have flying on a 3.5G sim. and have been doing well so far, also flew on a low wing calmato ( for 10min) only. but did fine. so hopefully with the assistance of my trainer i can get this baby to fly well. My trainer believes strongly that it is best to start with an intermediate plane rather than a trainer and that if you start with an intermediate plane, you will have an easier time stepping up to more powerful models.<div>
