id go .40 beacuse its cheaper, uses less fuel, and your second plane always takes a beating. the uproar wouldnt be a bad second plane (not the greatest one either) if you kept the rates down and had someone maiden it for you.
if you could track down an old .40-.46 bushing engine (which only weigh about 10 oz) that will keep it light and floaty, no need to over power this one (.46 bb engine is way more than enough power)
just for your info, hobbypeople.net is having a sale on magnum .46 engines (50 bucks) so it will keep it cheap.
some better second planes are, gp rapture, 4*, tiger 2. however if your set on the uproar it should be fine (just set the rates on low)

I have both. I don't believe that Tower is selling the Uproar 60 any more though. The Uproar 40 is a great plane. It is fast fun and very nimble. It's roll rate is very fast and is solid as a rock through all maneuvers. The 40 is not a 3d plane and it will not knife edge. If you are wanting this for a second plane I would say it may be a little too much, but this all depends on how you fly. If you use good throttle management this plane flies great slow and fast. It is very stable flying slow and lands slow as well. It is a plane that will keep you happy for years. I have recovered mine and have been flying it for 5 years. It is still one of my favorites. The Uproar 60 is a great plane as well but very different than the 40. The 60 is slower and more graceful in the air. The thick large wings do hold down the speed on this plane. It is a heavy and solid plane that can take a hit. I found out by doing a loop too low and smacking the ground flat with the landing gear. The plane just bounced up and I couldn't believe that I still had control to land it. I had no damage except for the landing gear through monocote on the wings. The landing gear is too short It could use another inch to raise the prop off the ground. The short gear is not a problem just as long as you are not prone to striking the prop on landing. You will need a larger that 60 size motor on the Uproar 60, and anything in the 40-46 size is more than enough for the Uproar 40. The 40 and the 60 both do everything well without any bad tendencies. You will have fun with either. Happy Flying.

I did the UR as my second plane. For some reason I will never understand, I didn't have any problems with the URs?? I built all 40s and loved them. For my main power I used the OS .46 LA engines. I did try other engines over the years but none of them flew the plane any better. I never flew 3-D though. Dumbest engine I installed in one was the MDS .58 for me to say over kill is saying something but it was!! The 60 is just bigger so if you have old eyes then it's a good choice. Most the time I would say no for a second plane, it's a fun fly plane and can be flown crazy but I did it? There are a lot better choices for a second plane though.

If you want to order a kit for your 2nd plane, take a very serious look at the Great Planes Rapture 40 kit. It's quick building and very well priced, it's also a terrific sport plane with no bad habits at all. I have an Enya .45CX on mine, and it has quickly become my favorite go-to plane for enjoyable weekend sport flying.

It's a shame that the Great Planes Rapture .40 is such a well-kept secret, it deserves to mentioned in the same breath as the Goldberg Tiger 2 and the Sig Four Star.
