I ordered a Giant Super Sporster from Great Planes, Just the plane and servos. I'll be buying engine in January since there is no hurry to fly plane, still flying my Hobbico Hobbistar 60. The thing is, my mentor recommended a Zenoah G38 for it. I wanted to know if someone has done this plane-engine setup before, and how did it go? The manufacturer recommends a 32 cc, so this engine (g38) would be little bit over the range. Thanks

Any of the newer style electronic ignition 26 type engines would pull it great. I almost ordered one myself last monday when I was at the hobby shop. If I do I will buy a new DLE30, very similar power as the Zenoha 38. But much smaller, and lighter. Would be better suited for this airframe. And I Love Zenoha's, still fly a couple of 62's regularly.
Hope this helps, best of the season to all.

I do love Zenoha's. The DLE30 will have a lot more future as far as upcoming airframes. If you have access to an existing 38, fill your boots! But to buy a new one, will have a limited future. Magneto engines will prove to be a scratch builders choice.
And as stated, the DLE30 is lighter, and as strong. Enjoy your hobby.

Is this a kit or ARF? If its the kit, make sure you put some carbon in the tail. I have friends that built it and they tend to throw the tail. Long moment and not enough reinforcement. Just a couple of 1 inch strips on the inside would fix it.
Great plane though.

Based on the DLE30 forum, the engine is just not reliable enough and may have some issues..?
The Zenoah is getting out dated but would suit well for this plane. Maybe look into the Syssa 30 or MLD 28 as well. There is always the OS 160 glow or the Moki 1.8 or Supertiger or some of the bigger 4 strokes like Saito 1.80 -2.20 or YS

The tail of the Great Planes Super Sportster 90-120 kit may not be "reliable" when you use a gasoline-powered, high-vibration engine. The model was designed for 90-120 size glow two-stroke glow engines. Usually, the .90-size two-stroke engine is plenty of power, and a 1.20-size four-stroke engine works nicely, too. If you go to a gasoline engine, not only are you adding higher levels of high-amplitude vibration, but you are adding a LOT OF WEIGHT. The model was flat-out not intended to support that much weight from the firewall. The O.S. Max 1.08FSR was an ideal engine.
The ARF version is different, and up to a 32cc gasoline engine can be used.

We used a 120 four stroke, sorry Bax, it happened more than once.

Thanks for all the input. But it looks like I won't be flying that plane, the package got stolen from my doorstep yesterday, called Tower hobbies and they are going to start an "investigation" into it with UPS that will last 2 or 3 weeks, to determine what happened. As of now is a "missing package" not stolen. I'll keep you guys posted if I receive a replacement, or if not, what plane I'll buy. (In case the don't replace it I wont be buying from Tower ever) so maybe I'll go with Hangar 9 Pulse or so.
Thanks for all the info, and Merry Christmas.
Don't worry, this wont spoil my Christmas, I'm healthy, happily married, got a job et cetera...the plane I'll replace in January.

Sorry to hear that. Tower has always treated me right, they will you too. If you have a place where things get taken, have all shippers require a signature when they deliver. That will stop them from just dropping it off, but you will have to be there when they deliver. Not fun, but you have to do it if people take your stuff. UPS should pay for it, but hopefully tower will help set it right.
