Default Upgrading batteries

Hello all, new to RC planes and I have a question about upgrading batteries for longer flight time.I have the "Dynam I Can Fly" model which has a A21 brushless outrunner (current: 1.8a- 13a, voltage: 7.2- 12.6) and 18A ESC. The current battery is a 11.1v 1250mah 10c li-po. Any suggestions for bigger batteries that wouldn't be to heavy for plane or knock the CG out..

Thanks
Troy

A higher mAh's and higher "C" rating will give you
more time. Keep in mind your ESC is only rated at
18 amps.

Actually the ESC's rating doesn't come into play here.

Schrockie:

You can use whatever you can fit in there.

I'll be you can stuff in a 1500mAh to 1800mAh pack w/o problems.

While this does increase the weight, the percentage increase is relatively small, and because the additional weight is towards the nose, the C.G. will only be slightly adversely affected. You may not even notice it.

The C.G. will move slightly forward of where it is now, but that's about it.

I'm back with more questions! I've been reading up on li-po batteries and balancer/charger units to the point that I have brain overload and can no longer process info.

Motor and ESC info(what I could find): motor A21 brushless outrunner made by Dynam current 1.8a- 13a, voltage 7.2- 12.6, ESC 18A

Batteries: 1250mah 11.1v 3s
My local hobby store carries the Power Edge 11.1v 2200mah 30c for $55(next smaller size is a 1300mah). I read a bunch of excellent reviews and the size seems like it will fit ok into fuselage. Hobbypartz carries the Blue Lipo(same size, haven't seen any reviews) for less than $20. Is it worth it to spend 3x the $$ onpower edge?
<font color="#476c8e">http://www.hobbypartz.com/83p-2200mah-3s1p-111-25c.html</font>

Charger/Balancer: 2~3s stock cheapo: must have one that will plug into AC wall outlet and hopefully charge upto 6s(so I can charge 2 at a time. Would like to keep charger in the $30-$50 range.
<font color="#476c8e">http://www.hobbypartz.com/thac6smbachw.html</font>

I would like to have 2 or 3 bigger batteries and a good AC balancer/charger and keep a budget of $100-$150
Are my links good choices, any advice is welcome (good or bad).

Thanks people

So assuming 13A maximum x 11.1v = ~ 144 watts

IMHO No.

The "Blue" packs produce 25C which is FAR more than you'll need for your plane.

They will also later transfer over to other planes.

They work fine, though I've only been testing them for a month...

Instead of spending more for a higher price pack, get MORE packs instead.

That way you can have several packs ready to go for you at the field.

Also you'll tend to collectively cycle them less often, effectively making them last longer.

Default RE: Upgrading batteries

I also have the Dynam I can fly plane and have flown it once. I want to get a replacement battery or a larger battery that will give more power or flight time. My present battery that came with it is the Dynam Li-Poly Battery, 1250mAh 11.1V, 10C Discharge. I can't find it on the Nitroplanes site. Is their another option to this that I can get that will work for the plane even if I have to go bigger in size. I want it to still be able to use the charger that came with it. The wires out of the battery are (1) a plastic red small rectangle plug (1/8" x 1/4" x 1/2") with two bigger wires, red and black, and the charging plug is a small white plastic plug with four wires, red, blue, yellow and black. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.<br type="_moz" />

This battery, or one slightly larger should work for you. The red plug you describe is probably a Dean's plug, which these batteries used to come with. I think they may have changed the connector due to a patent dispute. The white connector is for balancing.

I have been using two of these packs, plus four larger ones, for two years with no decrease in performance.

Good luck

Yup and you may even be able to fit a 1800mAh 20C 3S LiPo in there.

If you purchase one with a pre-installed "Deans" connector, you will not have to wire anything.

The packs Dynam uses are pretty standard in size, connectors and shape. Though the supplied "C" rating while adecuate for that plane, could be better.

My "Dynam: I Can Fly" battery pack came with a JST plug. It was very easy to make a JST to DEANS adapter.

Good work, now you can use most commercial packs.
