I have a Futaba 7C 2.4, a Futaba 6da FM,and a Spektrum DX5E 2.4 and I wanted to use the 7C as a master for trainning can I use one of the other tworadios as a slave? If so what cord do I use? I have a cord that came with Realflight 4.5 that plugs into the 7C and Spektrum trainning ports but I'm chicken to try it without knowing there compatable.

Forget about using the cord that comes from your Real Flight. It is ONLY for using with the simulator and will not work in a real world solution. However, here are the cords you need to connect your other radios to your 7C.
Futaba 6da FM to Futaba 7C 2.4
Futaba Micro plug to round plug - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...LXBEK8&P=7
Connecting the Spektrum as a slave radio to the Futaba 7C won't work. There is a cable made that will connect the 7C to your Spektrum but it only works with the Futaba as the slave and the Spektrum as the master. It won't work the other way around.

There is a wild solution to the cross brands, cross frequency buddy boxes in the Jan issue of RC Model World. It is a device that requires two RX's in the plane and it selects which RXto follow. Check this out. http://www.2icrc.com/
It looks like a lot of work and while it works, it isn't a good option. Futaba has a "wireless link between TX's. I don't know much about it as to whether it may work cross brands.
When Iwas on the Buddy Box, Isupplied both the master and trainer boxes. The Master was a Futaba 9C adn the trainer was an old Futaba Attack 4 channel. It worked verly well with one exception, the throttle trim was an issue and if it was adjusted for idle and cutoff, the trainer TX couldn't get full throttle, and if it was adjusted for full throttle, the trainer couldn't get good throttle down for landing. When I tried to buddy box my Sons 6ch Futaba, to the old Attack for the traniner, things got ugly. This is all between like brands. Cross brands may really require something like the 2icrc solution.

I am sure I know the answer to this already but I may as well ask since this is the thread. I have an 8 yr old Tower FM and a new Airtronics RDS 8000. Are either of these radios compatible with anything else? Airtronics 2.4 to a Futaba?

You'll need to use each brand of radio to buddy box for each one. Airtronics to Airtronics and Futaba to Futaba
sorry

RCKen....I just recieved an email last night after putting up my post in this thread. It is from a guy who claims to be an inventor of a device that allows cross manufacturer and cross wave length for a buddy box. He also claims that you have seen this device and approve of it. It sounds a bit fishey to me. Espcially since you make no mention of it. Would you like for me to forward you the email? He also PM'd me the same message.

THIS IS THE EMAIL AND PM I RECIEVED TODAY. ANYBODY HERE THINK THIS IS FOR REAL? OR IS THIS JUST ANOTHER NIGERIAN CLAIMING I HAVE INHERITED 30 MILLION BUCKS.
Hi,
Firstly, I must inform you that I am the inventor of the device mentioned on this thread. www.2icrc.com
The product I created does allow you to bridge the radios you mentioned and allows you many more freedoms as well not possible with the cable. My latest review is also mentioned in this thread. I received a 2.5 page long review in RC Model World Mag out of the UK, Jan 2010. I will also be in the AMA magazine within a couple of months or so. If you visit my website you can see other reviews that have been done and all are coming back with success.
As a matter of fact, RCKen has seen my device in person before and was impressed at an event in Muncie at the AMA Headquarters.
Anyway, if you are interested and have questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected] or here at RCUniverse.
Best Regards,
Evandro

Oh yeah, I do have this device and I'm working on a review of it. Yes, Evandro is legitimate and his system does work. It does allow you to use ANY two radios as buddy boxes in a system. What his device does is setup with a channel on the first radio set as the "switch" for his device, usually a toggle switched channel. Then when that switch is toggled the second radio is in complete control of the plane. This is just like a traditional buddy setup with the exception of having a buddy box cord. The advantage of this setup is that you can install it in to a plane and both instructor AND student can use their own radios, so they are likely to be more comfortable using their on radios. The downside of this setup is that you have to install a receiver for both radios into the plane, which can be a problem in smaller trainers with not a lot of room inside of a fuselage.
This is one of the many uses I can see for this device.
You can find more info on it here. http://www.2icrc.com/

Thanks for clearing that up Ken. Much appreciated. And my apologies to Evandro for doubting him. But in this world you should always get verification if something sounds too good to be true.

The 7c works great with any futaba fm radio. I use My 7c with a skysport 4. The 7C will let the skysport 4 use all 7 channels anyway I set this airplane up. Dual rates on the 7C change the rates on the skysport, mixes ect work through the radios too!!! It is almost like the buddy box is flying through the 7C. (skysport 4 doesn't have dual rates.)
