the most ive ever taken was eight, i flew every one of them.
usually its 3-5, took the back seat out of the minivan and i can fit 4 models easily 6 if i organize and 8 if i set a few on top, thats not counting the 3 i can put between the middle seats, could put 2 more in the front seat and a 1 in the isle....
minivans arnt half bad if you like to fly planes.
granted im flying 40 sized planes for the most part, a few .60's but also a few .32's

Usually 3 Nitro and 1-2 Electrics. I have a Trailblazer and an Alpha Trainer, Escapade and an Extra 300 plus a Trojan and Typhoon foamie fit well, plus all accessories. I usually fly only 2-3 on any given day but like to have some options available.

One or two is usual. But sometimes I don't take any and I still fly and fly. I test fly, trim fly, instruct some, any try out other peoples airplanes. Having flown RC for 40 years (as of this summer), I have flown more models than most people have. If it is a new airplane, I am it's best chance of it making a second flight.

In spite of all this experience, I am still learning, still improving. I guess that is what keeps me at it. The downside is the eyes are degraded and will only get worse with time. Fine motor control will start to go in another 15 or 20 years. I will eventually fly easier bigger airplanes, but someday even that will not be enough. Guess I will just run the mower then. There is always grass to cut at a flying field.
I visited another flying field while on vacation this week and came across an old old-timer. He was 84 years old and his flying skills were still pretty good. he was flying a 40 class big stick with a saito 4 stroke in it. It was a delight to meet him and humbling to see him flying as well as he did!

Guys will look at the planes I get out of my car and set up and ask me how I got so many planes in there. I have an Impala LT and I pack three 40 size planes and one 60 size stick with a 91 OS and I could even get an electric in there if I tried hard enough. So I can take four to the field and when I plan to stay a long day I do take four. I think there is an art to packing planes in a car. It is almost like packing 27 people in a VW beetle

My normal haul is three and that works out real good. I take a fast sporty plane like the Revolver and a couple like the Pulse XT 40 which makes for a great day for me. One thing I can never figure out is why certain people will only take one plane then something happens that they cannot fix and they have to go home. I just don't understand that.

I have seen guys drive up in an SUV and pull out one small 40 size plane, a flight box and fuel and fly a while. Then something might fail and they are done for the day! I saw one guys fuel tank start leaking and another guys servo failed and could not be fixed. Each time with one plane that is it for the day. If they had just put one more plane in they could enjoy the flying hours left in the day and they could have flown instead of wasting time trying to fix the broken planes at the field.

That to me is just lacking good prepping for a days flying. It is one thing if you don't have any other planes, but when you do and don't bring them I simply do not understand that.

Maybe a better question is "how many props do you take to the field?"

Three is all that will fit in my car. I bring all sorts of support stuff, though. Field box, starter battery pack, chargers, tool box, parts box, prop box, all sorts of stuff.

I am sort of like Opjose.. two "large" and one "small", usually an electric. If I can squeeze in another, it's usually another electric.

I have a Volvo V70 wagon. When I bought it, I had a plane with me to see if it would fit ok in the back. The sales person was sort of curious, but concerned that the car would "pass the test"...

Two planes, support gear, including a sun shade, fit in the bed & passenger seat of my Ranger. Have an extended length SUV but have very seldom found the need to use it.

I normally take two or three. Tomorrow I plan to take my Kavalier (46 glow), Radian (elec sailplane) and Ember (very small elec). I sometimes also take along a control line stunt ship since I fly both RC and CL.

hmmm...however many are still flyable, lol. Usually at least two, either couple 40 size glow or electric, or one glow/one electric. Fortunately, my field's only 10 minutes away, so a run home for more supplies (props, planes , etc) isn't out of the question.

Normally just one model - less likely to miss an important pre-flight detail, or parts.

This year Is the first . I will start taking 2 planes to fly . With 2 back ups ( with no engines or rx tx ) at home. 1 - 40 SIZE 1 - 60. SIZE
Is this a good plan or over kill ?
I would never take a plane to a field that needs an engine and radio installed , unless it was 2 states away and a 2 day event!!...Rog

I usually bring two nitro .60 size and two electrics ( parkzone corsair and micro cub) but my son also goes with me and usually brings two ( .60 size ) as well. Airplane transport is the bus's sole function.

I have 2 planes at the moment, I'll have 3 most likely by June or July for sure. I usually bring one plane at a time because I drive a 1999 Ford Escort with the rear seat that folds forward. I can cram 2 planes if I take my time, but I don't like driving my car with the drivers seat pushed all the way forward and my nose pressed in the glass while driving. I'm 6'4" and it's not fun!

When ever there is a big event or airshow, I borrow my Father-in-Laws truck with the cap on it, then I can bring my 2 planes, wife and 2 year old son. I mostly fly my Seagull .90 Extra 260 as my main aircraft and only bring my Fokker at the special events.

Last year at the S.T.A.R.S event in Cicero, NY I didn't know about the event ahead of time, and I just finished flying my Extra at my Club alone. Then I decided to drive 25 miles to my LHS to pick up some more fuel when the owner told me about the show 40 miles away. So I got in my car and went, if I had known about the event sooner I would have brought both my planes and would have been there sooner.

You can see my Extra 260 right behind my friends BUSA Cub and wife at the S.T.A.R.S event.

Both my planes at my clubs airshow last year.

I've recently moved from tricycle landing gear to tail dragger and am finding I can fit more planes into the car more easily as a result.

Usually 4 planes at a time packed carefully in my suv. It's a combination of 2 .40 size and 2 .60 size planes. But this spring it may drop down to only 3 though since I'll be moving up to some larger planes. It's usually a combination of 2 from each group below:

.40 size
- hot rodded hangar 9 PTS P-51
- hot rodded seagull PC-9
- standard trainer (it's fun t
- hangar 9 t-34
- electric stick

.60 size
- P-51
- hellcat
- corsair
- P-47

And coming in the spring:
.120 size and larger
- .120 size stearman
- .120 size typhoon
- .120 size pattern plane
- IMAA size T-28

So I'll have to see what will fit.

I would not either! It takes time to get the radio right! You do not just want to put it in in a hurry and go fly. the plane has to be balanced, takes time!

Just one 40 or 60 sized glow plane. If I have time to get 4 flights in I consider it a good day. I have never more than about 2 hours at the field. Too much else on my plate.

Is it getting deep in here or what?

Oh, of course. I have my butler tear down all servos and inspect all the gears under magnification after every flying session. I also have him check out the battery packs, switch harness and RX under full load on my ultrasonic test bench.
When he's completed those tasks, then he tears down the engines completely for Zyglo and magnaflux inspection of all moving parts. While he's at it, I have him demagnitize the crankshafts to reduce unwanted drag.
We also firmly believe in tossing all control linkages every 4 flights and redoing all hinges, just to be sure.
This way, we are sure to never have any mechanical failures or to need more than 1 plane at a time at the field.

Just one plane and the prop that's already attached. [8D]
