TT Pro 46 - work with 60 size trainers?
#26
The TT Pro .46 would be a terrific engine in a Tower Trainer 60 ARF, a Thunder Tiger Tiger Trainer .60 Mk II ARF, a Hobbico Nexstar 46 ARF, a Hobbico Hobbistar 60 ARF, a World Models Worldstar 40F ARF, or a World Models Super Frontier Senior .46 ARF. The shortest wingspan on this list is the 67" WM Worldstar 40F. The WM Super Frontier Senior 46 should look very familiar to folks who have flown the Sig Kadet Senior.
Anyone who says the TT Pro .46 would be underpowered on any of the above trainer ARFs simply hasn't tried it before.
The TT GP-42 is a better match for true .40-size trainer ARFs like the Avistar ARF, the Tiger Trainer .40 MkIII, the Tower Trainer .40 MkII ARF, or the WM Sky Raider Mach I. The GP-42 has gobs of power; 13,500 rpm slightly rich on a 10x6 Master Airscrew Scimitar S2 prop with a Fox RC Long glow plug and Magnum 10% nitro fuel with 70/30 synth/castor lubrication. The more expensive O.S. .46 LA will only turn 12,000 rpms or so with the same prop, fuel, and plug. The light weight of the GP-42 will make 59" to 63" trainer ARFs balance more easily and maintain the gentle slow flying characteristics of the airframe without cutting out power.
Good luck and good shopping!

They still have LT-40s at Nitroplanes. It is the same plane that you would have bought from SIG, just ''misdirected''.

Sounds like with this engine I can go either way with a 40 or 60 sized plane. I like the looks of the Hobbico Hobbistar 60 ARF, but while reading about it, I read some guys comments that because it wasn't covered in monocote, he would stay away from it even though he really liked the plane. Should I be avoiding some planes because of the type of covering on them, and if so, what coverings should I be avoiding?

Well, I just placed my order for the LT-40 ARF at Nitroplanes. The plane is what I was originally looking for before I read all about Sigs ARF problems and became unsure. So now I'll take a chance on it anyway, and the price was right. I also got an extra 5% off using the NITRO5 coupon. Before I ordered, I read every single review of the LT-40 ARF here at RCU, and everything was so positive for this plane being just an awesome trainer AND a fun plane to fly even after someone is experienced, that it made up my mind to just do it. Thanks to everyone for their advice and opinions. It's great that the people at RCU are definitely more than willing to help a newbie out.
Oh, and BTW, the 70" wing will fit kitty-corner in the 5ft. bed of my Tacoma with about 3 inches to spare. Boy, you just gotta like it when it all works out

Blacktails you made a wise choice. The LT-40 is a long time favorite and a perfect match for your 46, that you will not regret.
As far buying it from Nitro you have no apologies to make and it would be silly for the fellows who really want them to deny themselves of this last batch because of the problems that Sig may or may not have with their suppliers.
I too consider this an unfortunate blow to Sig, a long time favorite with many and sincerely hope that they get whatever problems worked out and become a great supplier once agine.

Idoubt SIGwill be in much of a hurry to carry ARFs again after this last fiasco. That said I do not begrudge you buying one from Nitroplanes. As it sounds you probably would not have bought a kit anyway so it affects SIGnot at all . In the future after you have had a good experience with your SIG designed ARF you may consider kit building and give them a chance.
I think you will be very happy with any SIGkit you choose to build.

Although I advised against buying it from nitroplanes..the fact is that the LT-40 is a great trainer airplane regardless of where you got it. Your TT 46 will pull it around nicely and it is as big as some 60 size trainers. Good luck with the LT-40....I am certain you will enjoy it![8D]
