I only have DLE-20's and 30's, no 120AX. But in the DLE-20 thread here on RCU, people were comparing the two and they run the same numbers within about 50 RPM's. Favoring the DLE. Im not going to split hairs over a 50 RPM, so I just said they run about the same numbers. :)

That's pretty good...

A two stroke OS 120AX is more akin to a four stroke 1.80 in terms of power.

Most equivocation for the DLE-20 I've seen put it in the 1.20 four stroke range.

The Cobra-calls for a 50 gasser.
<span style="font-family: Comic Sans MS;"><span style="font-size: larger;">Looks like a racer. To double the speed you have to Square the HP.
If they call for a 50 CC Gasser a 65 to 85 will work better. Ya goto Hate flying under powered models. They just arn't any fun. Lots better man to pull the left stick back a little, than not to be able to push it far enough foward to get out of a bad situtation.

RE: What would a gas engine be compared to a glow

if you fly a 1.80 four stroke that is comparable with a 26 to 30cc.I have a wildhare edge and will fly it with a dle30.ws 73 wt. about 10.5

I have dynaflite pt19 89 inch ws and weighes about 13 pounds uses a satio 180.

if you have a plane as posts suggest needing a 50cc you aint going far!

Hi, a 1.80 is a 30cc, I am sure you can find a nice gas 30cc gas or use the 1.80 engine. The chart below is what I use when I want to know the difference.

My Brison 2.4 is a 40cc and gives about the same performance as the DA 50, also no longer made that I know of. The DLE 55 is a super buy.

are you sure about that, did you mean 3.2?.... my dad used to have a 2.4 and it would swing 18'' props around mid 7s similar to what a DLE 30 can do

Pretty sure it's a 2.4. It pulls a 20X8 Xoar at 7800 RPM. Due to the carb direction I need a tach to tune so it's the only engine I own I remember the RPMs. It still has a bit more lean left in it but I do drop the RPMs a bit.

RE: What would a gas engine be compared to a glow

The DLE55 is a great engine, but Hobby King has them on "Permanent" backorder....in other words, they don't carry them....super savers can get them from Tower for $370.00 delivered. The only way I know of to beat their price is to have somebody bring you one from China, where they can be purchased there locally for $270.00. There is no import tax on them when they are classified as "toy engines".

If you're not a fan of Tower, you can get them from Valley View also. Troy Built Models carries them as well. Tower is still the best buy however.

My father and I and also 1 other guy at our local club all fly 50cc size planes. I have the 3.2 Brison, father has DA 50 and the other guy has a Aerovate 55cc. They both have the MX2 and I have an older Edge 540 which is slightly heavier maybe a pound or pound and a half more. The planes all run the 23B Vess props. All three planes run very very close as far as speed and vertical pull but the Aerovate does seem to have a slight edge on the DA and the DA a very slight edge on mine.

RE: What would a gas engine be compared to a glow

Good chart, Greenfuelboy, but a 2-stroke glow engine has more compression and runs faster while a 2-stroke gas turns engineslower, has less compressionbut has more energy available in the fuel and can turn a much larger prop. It's not all about equivalent volume.

I have the CRRC GF55ii twin gas. Spinning a 23x10 Xoar. Works well and cheaper than the DLE.

What about this http://www.wolfmodels.net/PTE50i.html . The PTE 50 got a good review and seems like a good motor.
They also have a rear exhaust 35cc and rumor there will be a 60cc and a Twin 70cc.

If you want the best power to weight for this, and the $$ are not the biggest factor, put a DA-60 on it. It weighs less than the 50's and is a beast power wise.

The Cobra was designed by Dan Santich. His son, Steve Santich is a regular flyer at our club and good friend of mine. I've had the pleasure of seeing many of his old planes at Steve's home. Dan was the man when it came to RC design. A few years back I nearly took on the task of building the cobra - BUT- life happens...
Good luck with the build and I ask that you post a build of it. I'm sure Steve would love to see one of his late dad's planes come to life again!

There seems to be quite a few that are going to build the Cobra. See Cobra build thread. I am now looking for a good place to buy the wood that I need for the build. Hopefully those that are building will post pictures in the build thread forum. Thanks for the history lesson.

Gene, my 1.40 RCS is a 22cc but rear induction and high performance, no longer made or imported. My Brison 2.4 is a 40cc and gives about the same performance as the DA 50, also no longer made that I know of. The DLE 55 is a super buy. If you know any group of guys that get together and order from Hobby King and pay for the express shipping the price of the DLE is even cheaper from them. It's an outstanding engine for the price. Just toss the spark plugs that come with any of them and they are perfect out of the box.
I had a DLE55 on order from Hobby King for almost 3 months last Spring and gave up trying to get one from them. Hopefully they have them in stock by now. BTW- I had no problem with the refund. Their response was very prompt

I eventually bought mine from Troy Built models. They were running a on-line special for $355 which was almost as good a buy as buying from HK if you include HK's shipping. Check TB's website occasionally and see what specials they are running

Yes. When Brison first came out they had a mechanical ignition advance on ther EI but then changed over to the CH ignition with auto advance. Good engines, why they aren't with us these days is another story.:D
