What would a gas engine be compared to a glow
What size gas engine would be compared to a 180 4 stroke. Need to know if my 180 will be OK for my new build.

RE: What would a gas engine be compared to a glow
Please don't take my advice on it, but comparing a 1/4 scale DP Cub I am seeing running on 4-stroke OS 200 with pump and my 1/4 scale Balsa USA cub running a G23 , I would think that a G26 would be closer to whatyou may like.

What are you building Gene?

The Cobra-calls for a 50 gasser.

RE: What would a gas engine be compared to a glow
If it calls for a 50, a 180 4-stroke glow will MAYBE get it airbourne

RE: What would a gas engine be compared to a glow
Hey if I don't fly more than a couple of feet in the air, I might survive a crash:D:D:D

RE: What would a gas engine be compared to a glow
A 180 4 stroke would be way under powered for a 50 gasser.....a 50CC gasser is, math wise, roughly a 300 2 stroke glow

RE: What would a gas engine be compared to a glow
Probably would not get it out of ground affect, ya think. Looks like I am going to have to break into the piggy bank.

RE: What would a gas engine be compared to a glow
1.80 4-stoke =~ 30cc
1.20 4-stoke =~ 20cc (I have run both in the same plane and found the power to be the same (Saito 120, RCGF 20cc)) 3.2 2-st gas =~ 50cc Rough estimations I use, (10cc =~ .60ci). Edwin |
RE: What would a gas engine be compared to a glow
I'd revise that down a bit... though some gasser engines are more powerful for a given size than others. 1.80 4-stoke glow =~ 30cc gas 1.20 4-stoke glow =~ 26cc gas .91-1.00 4 stroke =~ 20cc gas 35cc 2-st glow ( e.g. BGX-1 OS engine ) =~ 50cc |
RE: What would a gas engine be compared to a glow
Sounds like I will have to buy a gasser. I don't want to end up with a land rover with wings:D:D:D

The DLE-20 pulls the same prop at the same RPM as a OS 120AX.

I wouldnt even want to know how much fuel a 300 glow engine would use......ok maybe I would but wouldnt want to pay for it :D

Any good deals on a 50 size, remember now, I'm po folks

RE: What would a gas engine be compared to a glow
The DLE range of motors are getting good reviews, and are really 'cost effective' options ..... I;m looking to stick a DLE20 into a H9 60 sized P51 (it actually fits with a wraparound pits muffler!)

I have the DL50, precursor to DLE55. Been a good engine so far. A buddy has one with a lot of hours on it. He likes it.

RE: What would a gas engine be compared to a glow
I just assembled a Great Planes Giant Big Stick, it calls for an OS 180 2 stroke, I installed a DLE 30, it seems to be about right. Based on that I'd say that an OS 120 2 stroke was about equivalent to a DLE 20 and an OS 180 2 stroke equivalent to a DLE 30. Hope this helps.

Gene, my 1.40 RCS is a 22cc but rear induction and high performance, no longer made or imported. My Brison 2.4 is a 40cc and gives about the same performance as the DA 50, also no longer made that I know of. The DLE 55 is a super buy. If you know any group of guys that get together and order from Hobby King and pay for the express shipping the price of the DLE is even cheaper from them. It's an outstanding engine for the price. Just toss the spark plugs that come with any of them and they are perfect out of the box.
