RE: Let's meet the new guys!
Hi Levi501,
I live in AƱasco, P.R., and also I used to work in Boqueron as a Marine Electronics Tech. I am glad to hear about you, I will be more than glad to help you out. I have been in the hobby for about 35 years. The closest active flying site that you have is in the town of Hormigueros. When you exit the #100 road into the #2 highway, head towards Ponce ( East ) and very close, maybe 2 to 3 miles down #2 H.W., you`ll see a huge Church called "El Pabellon de La Victoria", at your right side, the field is right behind the church, you will take the next exit right at the traffic light right after the church, then about half a mile on that road you`ll see an entrance to the right, and there you`ll see a truck-parts store called "Borinquen Tractors", the field is behind that store/garage. Go there on Sundays, find a gentleman named Jaime Seguinot, he is the field guardian/president, he is a very nice fellow. As for me, I am just a phone call away or an e-mail away, just e-mail me for details. <<[email protected]>> I will never forget how nice you guys from the States treated me on your Country`s fields and Clubs when I used to live there ( Millington, TN and Va. Beach, VA ), Maybe I can return some of that great spormanship and frienship with you here in Boriquen. We fly in Mayaguez, next to the Star-Kist port, right next to the port on what is called the Cogentrix lot, right next to the flea-market place, by the way, we`ll be there tomorrow P.M., you are very Welcome to join us !!! I`ll be waiting to help you out any time. Johnny |
RE: Let's meet the new guys!
Saludos Andy !!!
Hey Andy, if you can`t land in Fentress, you need lots, and lots, and lots of practice !!! Just kidding !!! I used to fly in the great Fentress Airfield, what a dream !!! Met really nice fliers on that nice place. I used to be in the Great old Navy, station in Oceana/CVN-71. Learned a whole lot downthere in VA. Will never forget that beautiful town and the AWESOME ice cream down the road from Fentress !!! Maybe we met there already, I was driving a white Bronco II and used to fly modified Kaos 60`s in pattern (88-93). Johnny |
RE: Let's meet the new guys!
Not really new to flying, but definatly new to the net. Was holding out. Just a fad.
Anyway, I'm 30 yrs. I've been flying rc planes for about 6 yrs. Started with a glider, a two channel radio, and a old McCoy control line .15 or .19. I started crashing planes on a farm, without any help from anyone else, way before I started flying them. I've put down more planes than I care to remember. 5 in 2003 alone. But still building strong, 8 planes built, 1 framed up, 1 to recover and 2 waiting to be built. Enjoying the site " flyemcrashem " ___________________________________________ If you don't keep pushing yourself to do more, you won't. |
RE: Let's meet the new guys!
I'm 14 years old, been flying with my grand father in a real airplane since I was 2 years old, an PT-17 Stearman bipe.. I have an Goldberg Falcon 3 and an GP Extra 300 under construction. I have the real runway (2200'x100w)we use for the stearman to fly the R/C planes off of, Although I have never flown an r/c yet, I am deeply addicted to building.
Local club is Annapolis Valley Flyers, doubt anyone here flys there! |
Cocks away!
A 2 penneth worth as this is my first post.
I am just starting my second season and am still flying on a buddy lead (I really need more flying time). My first crash was within 10 seconds of my first ever flight (very bad start). The lads at the field told me my Arising Star was repairable, so I repaired it. I had 3 or 4 more crashes of differing degrees with this model, I think every crash made it slightly less airworthy. I have since bought a new Arising Star and touch wood have not had any serious prangs. I am determined to atain a standard where I can be let loose on my own, I am so bitten by the flying bug I have built a Seagull PT-19 with an Irvine .46 (not flown yet) and a World Models P-51D with an Irvine .46 and retracts, Miss America (not finished yet). I cant wait to get these in the air. |
RE: Let's meet the new guys!
Hi,
Im Mike. Im from the UK but your forum looks too good to ignore. I use to fly with my father about 25 years ago. We mostly flew slope, but tried power once or twice. Recently a friend has been interested in RC & spoke to me about it, which stirred an interest, & Ive just spent 3 days in awe at how RC has changed. Its just a matter of selecting the right model now. It use to be so easy; the model shop had 3 or 4 slope gliders... take your pick. Dam the internet! Great forum, thanks. |
RE: Let's meet the new guys!
Hey guys (and yes, the ladies too).
My name's Jeremy. I'm a 27 year old Mechanical Drafter living in the Minneapolis area. I built and flew my only RC plane when I was 12 or 13. Needless to say, it didn't last too long. I don't think I ever got a full tank of gas out of that 'lil .049. Anyway....I just got an itch to get back into the hobby (or sport for some of you) and can't wait to finish building. (No ARFs here) |
RE: Let's meet the new guys!
I'm Jeff From Vancouver BC. I got an LT-25 for Christmas which I have the wings built for. Looking forward to flying it this spring.

RE: beginner
Hello everyone!
My name is Chad Honea, and my wife and I reside in the Texas Hill Country near Georgetown (near Austin), Texas. I am 33 as of this month, but I refuse to grow up. Professionally, I am a contract claims adjuster, and as such I usually do quality control for a claims company out of Indianapolis. My work is seasonal (I go when the catastrophes hit) which leaves me a lot of free time. I keep myself occupied playing computer games over the internet, working on some personal websites, and playing raquetball down at the local rec center. In a past life I used to do graphic and web design as a profession, and I would love to get back into it. My wife is 25 and a kindergarten teacher. So there you go...that's the fluff intro of me. I am new to the hobby. Actually, I don't even know if you can call me "new" yet, since I have been stuck in a perpetual loop of research, indecision, and nervousness toward the thought of plowing a $400 model plane into the ground. About 5 or 6 years ago I stopped by a friend's house in Memphis (on the way home from a storm site) and he took me RC flying. It was the first time I had ever really seen a fuel-powered RC plane up close, not to mention actually fly it! We had a blast, and we ended the day with my spectacular cartwheel landing of his old trainer, resulting in snapping off the tail section of the fuselage. He insisted it was just an aggravation of an old injury to the plane, but I still felt horrible about it. Nevertheless, I've been hooked and have wanted to get into the hobby for these past several years. I had some digital pics of that day, but I can't find them...if I do I'll post them up here. I have looked at several planes and have settled on the Hangar 9 Alpha 60 as my first plane, which should help with the wind here in the central Texas area. I have an ok price through an online retailer, but I am pouring over eBay trying to get a better deal. I'm hoping to be in the air in the next couple of weeks. I look forward to knowing many of you...so far this forum is very informative and most everyone seems friendly toward us newbies! |
RE: beginner
CHAD! You are in a good place for getting into R/C :D
Georgetown Aeromodeler's field is right by the exit with the big sign for the caverns. Austin has at least 3 active clubs (I think more) Killeen has an active club (not as good for beginners as *I* think... but there are some good guys there.) There's MORE: Just a short drive North you can fly with Todd Blose at the HOTMAC field on the edge of Waco. (one of the best of the best in Pattern competition and a very friendly guy :) ) A slightly shorter drive north... Meet B.W. Ponder. (He tends to place high in Masters Pattern at the NATs. And another very nice guy.) (guess who else is not far away :D ) |
RE: beginner
FHHuber! :D I'll have to remember you...
I've been to Snead Field (the grass field there in Georgetown) a couple of times to watch. The guys at Discount Hobbies are real proponents of their club, so I'll probably be joining the GAMA as soon as I get my AMA card. I'm waiting a couple more days to get the big $5 discount for skipping January. Woot! There are a BUNCH of clubs around Austin. Looks like the main one is the ARCA (http://www.austinrc.org), which I think flies some paved field out on the east side. There is also the HCAM (http://www.hcamonline.org) who flies a field on the south side. I'm going there tomorrow morning to check it out. Then you have a small club called the Lone Star Aeronuts out of Round Rock, and they fly a field out by the Dell Diamond. The group in Killeen is CenTex (http://www.centexmodelers.com)...supposedly that grass field is very well known. I'm looking forward to checking it all out! If you find yourself flying around here drop me an email and we'll hook up! Hasta... |

RE: RE: Let's meet the new guys!
Just checking in-
Jettstarblue, or Jetts if you prefer. I'm not new to the hobby, site, or forum, but what the heck! I'm 42, been flying for 17 years, I instruct, and tutor building and flying. Some say I'm full of good advice, some just say I'm full of "it". I try to help out here as much as I can, partly 'cause I couldn't find anyone to help me when I got started. My avitar is me when I was 2 yars old, soooo serious, but NOT ANYMORE! Fly for life, and ask a lot of questions! Jetts |
RE: Let's meet the new guys!
Its me Darrell, down here in Florida. I'm 37 and an administrator at a local hospital. I've always wanted to fly R/C since I was a kid. Found out I had a kid on the way last Oct so I decided to jump on in the hobby. I have a Hobbico Superstar MKII, with a .40LA engine. Our local flying club has 10 instructors, so I've been learning since the weekend after Thanksgiving. I've had a wonderful time. These guys in the club are animals. They are at the flying field everyday.(I think some live there) They have been a wonderful resource and loads of help. I've made some good fiends there. Have I soloed yet? No, still connected to the buddy box, but I've done a complete flight from take-off to landing without my instructors input 3 times. I think I'm ready to solo, but I want to learn everything I can from my instructor. So far this hobby has brought me: 1) Thrill of flight 2) New friends 3) Outdoors with fresh air 4) Satisfaction etc. I guess the commeraderie has been the best thing since noone cares about what you do for a living, how much money you have, or what kind of car you drive. Best of all, my wife doesn't complain when I tell her I'm going to the airfield, like she did when I played golf. :)

RE: Let's meet the new guys!
My name is Rich Zaggia am 53 years old,I own and operate a electrical contracting co in Pinellas county., I live in Oldsmar ,Fla. I belong to the Largo Flying club. I have been in this hobby for about 5 years total. I have been flying a midwest aerostar .60 trainer, am now working on a flying lawn mower and an extra 300. I think this is the best hobby for me. I really enjoy getting out to the field and flying. I can put all my problems out of my head and just concentrate on flying. Also enjoy the getting together with the guys at the club. I like your web site. I spend quite a bit of time here reading forums and learning more about this hobby. Also found a new edge 540 wing that I have had on order with horizon hobbies for months. Just happen to find someone that had one for sale on your web site. Thank you , Rich Zaggia

RE: Let's meet the new guys!
Hi, my name is Johan (41 years old). I have been living in Pittsburgh for the part 8 years. Came here straight from South Africa. I have been involved in control line flying since a kid. My dad introduced us to Cox line of planes. I have 3 kids that are really into line flying. We have 8 r/c planes. Some still in boxes and some (2) built.
I am thinking of starting on the GLobal Raven, but I have read so much negative info that I do not know if it is worth it. Maybe I should complete the Ryan STA ARF instead. Thanks for the site and all the good info. It is really very heartwarming for a newbie to have a site like this to rely on. |
RE: Let's meet the new guys!
hi
i'm ethan. i'm 13 and just need my radio for my lt-40. the rest is finished. unfortunantly i have to buy everything myself. parents say you appreciate it more if you earn it. |
RE: beginner
Hi, I'm Richard. I've been flying for about a year now. I started trying to fly 15 years ago with a glider, and I killed it. Since I didn't have any more money, I put all my equipment away. I tried again about 8 years ago and had the same result and didn't have enough money to buy another plane(I was teaching myself, just so you know). My parents bought me an electric plane for Christmas last year and that's all it took. I killed the electric, but learned on it, and then bought an Avistar and an OS .40 LA and I've never looked back.
I have gone through: Avistar w/os .40 la Super Sportster w/OS .46 H9 Cessena w/TT .40 H9 Ultra Stick .60 w/MDS .68 GP Extra 300S (still alive) Kyosho AT-6 Texan (still alive) Global Freestyle (still alive) Seagull .61 Edge 540 w/OS 91 surpass (still alive) Carl Goldberg Extreme 330 (still alive) Hobbico Hobbistar .60 MKII Trainer (building now) I've been through a lot in a year. But when you are passionate about your hobbie, then you put everything you have into it. I'm really glad that I have a place like RCU to go to when I have questions or problems. I will continue to support RCU with whatever they need. I'm just happy to be doing something I love. |
RE: Let's meet the new guys!
Hello all :)
I'm Tyson, a 27 year old network engineer (professional computer nerd). I tried R/C when I was about 18, I lost my radio during a move, and quickly found I didn't have the cash to fund the hobby at that time. So now I do, and I'm getting back into it. I dusted off the trainer and got my neighbor (who also as luck would have it happens to be the local club president) to re-train me. I've been building my second plane this last month and I figure I'm about a week away from having it ready to fly. (a 4* 40). |
RE: beginner
Downsideup, you sound like a real addict! LOL
Welcome to RCU guys! I hope you can find the help you need and/or can share your knowledge and experience. |
RE: beginner
Hi,
My name is Lew. I am 49 and a Structures Design Engineer for Northrop/Grumman corp. I have been designing and building the real thing i.e. F-14, A6E, EF11B, Space Shuttle, E2C, X-29, F-16C/D, F/A-18E/F, B-2, X-29, and other projects for over 27 years. I am returning to the hobby after a long hiatus. My current plane is the Hobbico Avistar 40 ARF that I just recently patched up after a sudden decceration with the ground. Fortunately there was no major damage. My current project is a Top Flite P-40 with all the "goodies" added, Flaps, Retracts, Cockpit Interior, Custom Decals, etc. Hopefully it will first flight in the July time frame. I have been building all sorts of models, plastic, Guillows, C/L since 1959, where Plastic was my forte, due to the cost of other mediums. I now will attemtp to build 1/6 - 1/7 scale aircraft, which is what I enjoy. Talk to ya'll later, Lew |
RE: beginner
Impressive resume Lew. Maybe you can put your vast knowledge to use in out "Full Scale" and "Aerodynamics" Forums
