Whew!
Between getting product reviews finished, and dealing with the RCU Conversion, I have been up to my eyeballs lately. Plus, this is one of my busiest times at work. But I finally have a few minutes to take a breath, and pause long enough to say that I have noticed quite a few new "faces" here in the beginners forum lately.
So please help me out, by introducing yourselves. Tell me a little about yourself, and post a pic if you like.
And Welcome to RCU!

My name is jim,
I am 65 yrs old and learning to fly after a 40 yr layoff.
I used to fly with a single channel radio(thats all they had)and now I am starting over.
I have spent the last 6 weeks on a buddy box(we learn slow when were old) and I soloed this week and so far so good and my plane is still in one piece.
I bought a Hobbico Superstar RTF and it has worked perfect and love it.
I don't know what my next plane will be but I am looking!!!!

I'm just rod. I've been trying to get into the hobby since the mid 70's but couldn't find anyone to teach me and couldn't afford to get a second plane after I tried to teach myself. I work at an observatory, electronics lab, and have the time and a seasoned self taught trainer who has gotten me through enough that I am on my own with a Sig Kadet LT40, and about to start learning with a low-wing Northeastern Sport-Air 40. I just purchased a second-hand Great Planes Giles 202 1/4 scale (Moki 180)arf that I am hoping to advance into by mid summer. I am looking forward to getting to know quite a few people here, and maybe even see a few at the field.

Hi, my name is Paul and I am a 12 yr old shcool student. I have been fascinated with aircraft since I can remember( thanks to my dad) and was caught immediately when a friend of ours handed me the TX when I was 6 back in Zimbabwe. It was too expensive for a kid back there but no that we moved to New Zealand I wanna get stuck in.
p.s- a school friend of my dad's is giving me a trainer, engine and radio for free that he and a another friend abandoned so I am pretty lucky!

I am 35 and a IT Director for a Real Estate Co. My Dad had promised me we would fly
when I was 9, We would watch the R/C guys on weekend trips. Fell in love with R/C everything ,but never had the cash to try. I decided it was now or never , I have had a few R/C cars , Dreamed of a R/C heli, and bought an Avistar. I love the Hobby I get out once a week if Im lucky. I have a Avistar select, Avistar AWARF, Ripmax Alienator customized full length wing spar, Maple leading edge , Going to glass and epoxy the foam then go out and have a blast. I have learned alot, Smashing a balsa plane into
the unforgiving Arizona dirt is a Humbling experience - gather the pieces and rebuild!.
Many have said on this forum fix it and get back out there ! I did and am grateful to
all that post on this forum. A Big Thank You!! for all your help.

Names Rick. I am 36 and just getting into the hobby. Just put my first kit on order.
Went with the Futaba 9CAP, a Sig Kadet Senior, and the OS FS 70 Ultimate engine.
I work in the computer field by night (yes I work Mids), and since I only work 3 days a week (13 hours days) I have a lot of time for flying once everything arrives.

Well, I'm hardly new to the hobby or the site, I am however new to the beginners section now that my fiance' has taken up this great sport.
I don't know how much I'll be in the beginners section, but if there is anything I can answer specifically, if I see it I will, or if you wanna PM me that's kewl too.
I build guitars for a living, and do airbrushing, if you go to my website www.lgmguitars.com and click gallery, then graphix, you can see some of my models and a couple that I painted and or built for others.
Other than that, In the world of RC, I have done Pylon, Precision aerobatics (placing quite well in Expert and FAI) and most recently turbines. There is nothing that has got me going like the jets, they are a pure thrill, cost is high, but the thrill is high as well

Hey,
I spent almost 10 years in the U.S.A.F. as a F-16 Weapons Loader/Tech then re-trained as a Electronics Crypto Tech. Got my single-engine license while I was in...when I left I was checked out in a Piper Archer. Since then finished my B.S. and recently finished law school. Finally have some time to get into R/C. Between work and running kids to ballpractice/games, my daughter and I are putting together a Hobbico Avistar from Tower Hobbies with a OS .46LA.
I really apprecitate the help everyone gives on this forum, it makes a world of difference.

From: Houston, TX,
My name is John (it really is, not making it up). I'm 21 and am a college student. I've been wanting to fly rc planes since I was a little kid; I just never had the money to buy anything back then. Nowadays, I'm still broke. I'm also very new to this hobby. I finally got into it since my friends dad gave me his GP Piper J-3 Cub. It came with a .45 K&B sportster and I'm in the process of building it right now. I've never flown before. This will be my first plane. I build little by little everyday. I'm in Houston and the nearest field(15 min.) to me is Escobee in Goerge Bush park. I also have interest in precision shooting although I don't have a rig. I'll be staying with this hobby till I die. It's so addictive. I love building.

Hi, I'm Glen. About 13 years ago, a friend and fellow ham radio operator taught me how to fly his 40 size trainer. I bought one and built it but never got around to putting in an engine and radios. Between household moves, a divorce and more moves, I ended up giving it away.
This spring, the fellow I share an office with started back into the hobby after a 15 year break. Since I had just purchased a couple of radios for the ham hobby, I tried to resist all the R/C talk in the office. I made it through the entire summer but, alas, I just couldn't go on pretending I wasn't interested. My resistance broke down and I bought an Avistar RTF and all the field equipment. I'm back. Hopefully, this time to stay.

Hi I'm Chris. I'm 38 going on 8 (so the wife says)
I have been flying small electrics for 2 years and decided I'd try a glow plane. I just got my Avistar w/O.S. 46fx today and started putting it together. I should have it completed tomorrow and I will break in the motor on Monday. I am waiting for my AMA membership to come in the mail and will join a local club as soon as I get it.
The Avistar ARF that I received today is better than I expected. I am very glad I spent some time on this site getting opinions.

Tucson01 where do you fly. I fly at the TEMPA field in Avra valley. I have been flying RC planes for about 2 years. I flew glow for about 5 years back in the early 80's but gave it up when uncle sam sent me to europe. I started flying gliders and electrics 2 years ago and a friend from my glider club gave me a PT 60 trainer. I scrounged up everything I needed to get it in the air and the rest is history. I now fly a 4*60, a Cub, and a SPAD DPS. I have a 1/4 scale Quaker and am building a 1/4 scale Spacewalker. Me and an RC buddy fly almost every Sunday morning and sometimes on Saturday. If you fly at TEMPA I probably already know you. Have fun flying.

I just wanted to pop-in and say Howdy to some new and some not-so-new folks...
This is a great resource for RC'ers of all experience levels so if you have a question or want some advice, just ask- (If I can't answer it, I will find somebody who can- Jeremy?)
Seriously, welcome to RCU!
