i am about to aquire a sig somthin extra kit and i want to know if a .61 engine will fit because the site says it requires a .40-.46 engine. by the way this will be my first kit:D

It may "fit", but I think you'd be setting yourself up for trouble. it's most likely going to be nose heavy, need taller gear for prop clearance, and (when balanced) going to need some VERY dilligent throttle management. Most people find them nicely powered with a .46 - .53 2 stroke or a .70 - .82 4 stroke. You may be able to make it fit, but I wouldn't advise using it.

i love power and that is the only reason i was considering it but a .51 will suffice. i just didn't want to feel underpowered as i do in my avistar powered by a .40


and it will be a little cheaper which is always good:)

Many people have reported more than adequate power with the Irvine .53. I'm building mine around a Saito .72

I had a TT .46 on mine, had plenty of power, a .51 or .53 would be the biggest I'd put on it.

I've flown mine with both an irvine .53 and saito .72, both work well but the irvine is MUCH better in this plane. the stock gear looks great, but is pretty low to the ground. any suitable props for the saito were too big to fly without chewing them up.

Other than the prop clearance (which is easily solved by taller gear), what flight/performance characteristics lead to your preference for the Irvine over the Saito? Many people have flown one or the other, but you are the first I've seen to be qualified to offer a legitimate first-hand comparison.

First off, it is a very good kit for your first build. Everythign goes together very well. Just follow the instructions and you shouldn't have any problems. Of course you have all of us on here to help out should you need it. Secondly, about engine selection. I originally had an OS 46LA in mine and it flew great. Although I had to fly at full throttle most of the time and it didn't have much vertical. It was fun to fly, but it was definately "lacking" power. I switched out to a Magnum .52 2-stroke and WOW what a difference. Unlimited vertical, and can fly around easily at less than half throttle. Some people will say to stay away form the Magnum 2-strokes, but they are very good engines....IF. And that IF is if you know how to tune it properly and break it in properly.

Ooof - Sorry to hear that, but as easy as the kit builds, it does look pretty repairable.

i have built two of them they go together in about a week if you work a couple hours a day,i put the Irvine 53 on mine that makes it really hot when you want to switch to high rates.i would suggest installing the rear wires on the tale with that engine.on high rates with those large ailerons it will do about 3 spins a second.ans slowed down on low rates it will float in.i wouldn't put on the wheel pants if you are gonna take off on grass they wont last long.and the wing i have seen a few people here use screws or plastic ties, screws you need to modify the wings some.i have some photos of the second one i built i will try and post them for you.hope this helps some....happy flying

do you use screws or plastic ties horace? i am gonna put the wheel pants on as i fly off a full scale runway out of lake whitney state park, the end of the runway is about 100 yards from the water(the runway itself is 2000+ feet long:D) also they go together that quickly i was expecting a lot longer for some reason. and finally, thats a nice tight covering job you did do you have any pointers. as i have never done more than patch.

biqox,i use the plastic ties,for some reason i just don't trust rubber bands.the other extra i have,i installed plastic bolts.at the jbolts on the wings i also added a block of hardwood behind the rib then tapped it with the jbolt and used ca to harden the threads also used longer jbolts i made.i should have made the fuel compartment hatch removable but read that weakens the front end so i didn't.this thing is fun on high rates.i used untracoat for covering it seems to do a better job for me.i make most of my decals thought it might dress it up some.a lot of people don't care for them my daughter and i do them.they are printed on clear sticky back plastic then i coat them with urethane to fuel proof them.i will make some pictures of the other one i built and pose a few.hope this helps some ....happy flying

Hi I have built 2 of them and I have a Irvine 46 mklll with a tower muffler and it has unlimited verticle and flatout has the power. Im running a 11x4 APC prop also. the kits are a very easy build. there are maybe less than a dozon of SE`s at our field and they range from running 46`s to 53`s in the 2 strokers and for the 4 strokers saito 72`s nothing larger that Ive seen . but the SE is a great aircraft you will love it ..
