Hey you guys.......have a Happy New Year and good luck at the field..........trying to get to mine with nothing but rain and snow and heavy winds.

This is not a flame but a joke.............thought I'd better make that perfectly clear due to the start of this thread. You beginners keep on truckin' and I'm telling you after 35 years in RC, I'm still asking questions and still learning and I'm not flying big or jet or heli, but just sport and sport scale. Just have fun with what you're doing...........listen to everything and then make up your mind and follow the person that's helping you until you can make your own decisions..........like the rest of us and you'll do fine and have a lot of fun.

Wow!

This is my first time on this site, my first post, and this was the first post I read.............after reading the responses, It's nice to see that he seems to be the only "C.F." in the group, otherwise why bother, I don't even get this kind of abuse at work!
Yea, it got me thinking, thinking what a JERK you are! The next time you want to write a personal reflection of yourself, send it to your mother.

I'm glad I have visited the local air field; I know that you’re not the norm, and I have seen your kind before. It doesn’t bother me, but I'm sure it had a negative effect on many other Newbie’s to the hobby and this board.

I'm brand NEW to the hobby, this is something I have always wanted to for the past 44 years, and it has taken my 16 year old son to engage myself in the hobby (good excuse anyway), It's giving us something in common, time to bond and become friends again.

We bought a NexStar trainer, Trust me, all I want to do is take it out and fly (I can imagine how my son feels), we have our first meeting with the local AMA club tomorrow, and we are patient people and will wait for the proper training from an instructor. I'm sure their are impatient people that lay down a wad of cash just to crash then cry about it (You can skip the their post if you don't want to read it)

For the others, Thank You!, It's a good feeling to know other members have the patience’s to HELP the NEWBE learn something new. I look forward to this hobby, and Yes! I have a thousand questions that I haven't thought of yet, but I know if I asked, someone will answer!

You said it all. I quess I did rustle some feathers here. Gentlemen please learn to read and yes it does sound like it is pointed at the new kids on the block. But really come on now a drill instructor? Look fellas I was pointing to the fact that so many pilots are trashing airplanes they're blaming the airplane in stead of themselves. You guys know the ropes the new kid does'nt. It's up to us to give him or her a fair shot at this. Ok enough of this nonsense. I put my foot in my face and got bit. Now. If your new to this you need to know what you are getting into. You need the basics. So with that said and the heck with spelling and punctuation, did'nt know this was a grammar lesson. I was pointing my remarks at the so called experienced pilots that appearently could'nt fly if the plane was on a rope because they forgot the basics. I personnelly get tired of hearing how this plane is crap and this won't fly etc etc. Cause boo hoo i crashed it. Hay that's the breaks guys. but to learn I read the user reiews and learn. The discision is still there for me, but the new be just lost that choice because he does'nt know. They need to know that he can still make a fair choice and come out successfull. The name of the game. Right or wrong. A drill instructor ah? saved a lot of hartache when the job is done right. Not going there. So with foot still firmly implanted in mouth i bid you all a joyous and very HAPPY NEW YEAR. Keep flying and have a blast.

Hello Mr rick. Believe me I love the look in the eyes of first timer flying. and really I'm just a big bear. I was'nt intending to steer anyone away from flying or scare or upset anyone, and god knows I'm not joe genius here. I got people to think. That's a good thing.Never hurt anybody some people need a swift kick to look at themselves instead of sheading the blame. 44 years is a long time, I never have lost the feeling and excitment of watching and flying. The amazment in a youngsters eyes. So cool. You take care Happy flying.

please remember this is a beginners forum here. I've been lurking in the beginners forums for quite some time and I have noticed several things.

1. Almost everyone in here that is experienced are instructors or have been instructors and also have been in this hobby for years and are passing on very valuable info already
2. Most of the new people that come in here are willing to listen and learn but have a very strong desire to take their new baby up by themselves. Those that do not wait usually come back here and ask what happened and in most cases, not all, will start to really listen.
3. Some people just will not listen no matter what and will try to reword stuff to get the answer they are looking for.

When I read your first post I was actually upset that someone could possibly be that cold toward someone wanting to learn. Yes, there are cold hard facts about this hobby and the more expereienced persons that lurk in the beginners forum to try to help people will explain them to the new person. No one likes to hear the "bad" but everyone knows it existsIt's how the facts are presented is what makes the difference

A new pilots confidence is very fragile, actually let me reword that statement. Most new pilots confidence is fragile. If someone comes in here asking tons of questions on a daily basis that may sound "stupid" then so be it. That person is learning and willing to listen to what everyone thinks on what he is asking them making his decision based on several factors. The new person that beleives he can be a great pilot right from the first time he picks up the TX usually finds out pretty quickly that it's not as easy as it looks but has already planted the plane 6 inches into the ground. Some come back in here and admit the messed up and are now willing to do it right, others keep trying it destroying planes and yet others just give up. We see it all the time in here. Especially right after Christmas because everyone went out and bought the neatest, coolest plane they could afford and then come in here only to find out that it's not gonna fly well for them, it's not a good idea to try to train on it, etc. I feel for these people and would rather not have to tell them something like that but I am not about to tell them that the 500 dollars they just spent on a nice looking Warbird will be just fine, never gonna happen, but I will explain in a nice way why it's not a good trainer aircraft.

Also, no one wants to have to go to the field with a trainer, we see that here all the time also. What these people do not know when they say this is that most everyone of us started out on some sort of trainer and that once they take control for the first time, it's not gonna matter because that plane will seem like the fastest plane in the air at the time. Then we tell them that once they are on their second or 3rd plane to go back and fly a trainer and then they will soon see that it was really slow. Most people then realize that they did it correctly, and even though they may have been a crash or two, now it's time to break out the cool looking Mustang and give it a go

Now there will always be people who blame something else for there mistakes, it's a fact of life. These are the ones that constantly complain about radio hits, bad engines, bad electronics, etc... Then when you get down to the forensics of the crash, it's easy to see that a bad case of dumb thumbs, improper tuning, improper installation of the electronics, not the right glue, not the correct wood, and so many other things that were actually the cause.

Now take your foot out of your mouth, it's probably tasting pretty bad by now and go have a good new year holiday
