Ok people lets get down to basics here. I seen lots of crying and wimpering on how I bought this airplane and it sucks, or i crashed it on it's first flight. Don't buy this or that. Try this and and that. This plane would'nt fly if it was on a rope. Well boo hoo.. If you are a beginner, a newbe, a rookie, new to the plan start with an airpane you can fly. A trainer. No one I know started out as top gun ace. Learn to fly. Learn the basics of flight. Don't go for the big guns airplane. P51s, corsairs, twin jets, multi engine planes. Learning to fly is not like riding your bike. Fly a airplane that can fly itself.A trainer. An airplane that will self correct and remain stable in the air. It does'nt have to have a 100 inch wingspan or the biggest baddest engine it just has to fly. It gets you started out on the right foot instead of stumbling around wondering what to do. You got time to react and think and get it right. If your freinds rib u so what. This can be a very expensive hobby and why waste your cash. This is a very fun and relaxing hobby for most of us so lets come down to earth here. Always precheck your airplanes controls. Make sure everything works and in th right direction. Believe me nothing will end your day faster than control reversel.. Check your center of gravity. If it's wrong, correct it. Make sure your engine is tuned and running properly. If your new get help. no one will bite your head off. We all needed help at one time. Most if not all clubs have very experienced people to get you off to a good start. Electric powered, make sure your battery is fully charged and give the engine combo a test run to give you a time of duration. How long it will take to run out of charge. FOR EVERYBODY BASICS.
When you launch your airplane what are the first things to happen? Come on now lets all think here....... Times up. What happens first is sudden lose of speed. What are the results?... times running out. Lose of altitute. You don't have much to biginwith so u need all you can get right from the start. DOnot forceably climb because why?...when you climb you lose airspeed and? you decend into the ground boom! Whats next?.... Times up. torgue roll. which way will it roll. opposite the engine rotation. How to correct. Ok here's the tricky part. Most trainers will not show a great deal of roll on takeoff. They are designed that way to give you a good chance at a successfull flight. No surprizes but. If you need to correct for mild torque roll use your rudder control. Easily. Alittle on the control is all you need. If you have sudden extreme roll. use yor aileron controls to level yourself out. Then adjust for level flight. Trim. Sounds easy and it will be with time.. How do you prepare for a first flight. Well you do not go and fling your new airplane into the air right out of the box Like so many of you seem to be doing with the PZ P-51 and then crying cause it went down like a stone. You have got to make sure everything is correct. I mean everthing. Set the center gravity. nuetrel your controls. adjust the ailerons and elevator and rudder to their nuetral positions. Use a straight edge for these adjustments. Then think! What is going to happen as soon as I release this plane from my hand and it is on it's own. Is there anything to do to prevent a crash before it happens. Any questions??? Feel free to ask.

Geeze Isis...........what's with the attitude. With advice given the way you just did, I'd quit thinking about this hobby and take up golf or bowling. None of the newbies really know what questions to ask or at least very few and it really does hurt when you wreck your first "baby" no matter what it might have been. And all new participants in this hobby suffer from the getting ahead or yourself syndrome. As a modeler of over 30 years (this time), I can say that the kind of attitude you put forth here is what discouraged me in the first place and made me really appreciate the instructor that took my son and I under his wings and saw us through the learning process. I'm still learning and am grateful to those that can guide me through new facits of this hobby.
Please lighten up a bit.......none of the comments that the new-comers make really affects you anyway.
Regards,
Andy

He means well, but tact is seriously lacking. Just like public speaking, public typing is as art that requires forthought AND PRACTICE. Isis, before you post something, read it for not just typing errors(I didn't see any), but also askyourself "is there anything I typed that will offend someone?" By rewording several statements, you would have had a very informative post, not a negative one. No accusing here, just food for thought[sm=wink.gif]

I think Isis bought a new soap box and just wanted to try it out. He did get a little carried away but all he said was true. Reminded me a bit of Eagle Al. Sorry, but that is not a compliment. I am sure he meant well though.

Some things can never be said enough. As long as someone learns. Remembering the basics is what it is all about gentlemen.

I have been in the hobby for about 15 years and that post makes me feel like I better not ask any questions. Take a chill pill, maybe two. Did you take all of the correct steps when you started.

Actually there are quite a few spelling and grammar errors but I wouldn't have mentioned them if you had not raised the issue.

You are right on with what you are saying, but your attitude and delivery just plain sucks! It's attitudes like yours that turn some new guys away from this hobby in the first place!! I know if I showed up at the field for my first time and some guy came across with the attitude you have in your post, I would seriously have to think about whether to lay him out cold on the ground, or pack my stuff and go home. I hope you arent an instructor with tact like that.

All the right steps. I tell you I still don't know em all and for sure never will. If I rustled a few feathers here I am sorry but yor all thinking now. Keep it up. We as learned pilots, sometimes the hardway, have a duty to help the new kid on the block succeed. We all know the expence of the game. Even the best get into trouble cause of the fade facture. you forget, become to confident in your abilities and wow, boom in the ground. Then, as I have done on many occasion boot yourself in the butt. My first airplane, which I thought was the most beautiful thing I ever saw was a Cox 049 P40 warhawk. I mean here it is Christmas morning, jumping out of bed, running over to the tree, and this big, bigger than I was box is handed over to you. What could this possably be? Oh man. Ripping off the wrapping and comming to a complete stop, like time had ran out, Eyes as big as the sky. I saw it, green, red dot stars on the wings, amotor, a real gas powered motor, battery, fuel, string. Everything right there. Oh! I tell you this was great, terrific. I pulled it out of the box and just looked at it. From every possable angel. Touched it, felt it, rubbed it, became part of it. Imagined flying the real deal over enemy territory. Oh man this was great. I was a goner. The mold was cast, the nail set, the screw anchord, so now fifty some years later here I am. With the same passion as then. And just as innocent, still trying to learn all I can and trying to help others anyway I can.and if that means a few cages get upset, a few feathers rustled so be it. So many of you are so smart and caring and skilled builders and flyers, take the time to help out. That's all. I mean look at all the airplanes out today. Give you a headache. well, I never got a chance to fly that airplane I loved so much and now I fly what ever I can afford. So I know the ins and outs and disappointments, the greifs. Technology ran pasr me so fast I'm still in a tail spin going down trying to save my butt. And yes like so many others I crash and burn too. Sometimes the mouth overpowers my common sense and that gets me into trouble looking for a way out. Sort of like now. Anyways. What we need here is a place we can all go and meet and have a blast. Aplace the young and old can get together and share stories and talk. Figure out what went wrong. A crash and burn forum. What do you all THINK? oups! there's that word again.

Well I quess I got my butt reamed on this. Look fellow flyers if you jump into some thing with both feet you have got to know all you can. You all know that. The good the bad and the ugly. I'm not tripping my own trigger here believe, I can be as dumb as a rock an twice on sunday. I'm still a newbe here myself. Christ some of you guys are doing things with model planes people of my generation never thought possable till someone did it. Who knows whats next. Breaking the sound barrier with a model jet? That I would love to be in on. You guys are so smart I'm surprized we haven't got a lawnmower to fly. I read most of the replies Ive gotten over the months and learn from my own short commings. That's how it's done. Say something stupid and I learn. Get *****ed at and learn. I thank you all.... ISIS

Oh, by the way, about your vision of a place to talk about sharing stories, "a crash and burn forum", there is one already. I "THINK" you might want to take another look around.

OK, Piper, that's it. I can't stand any more. I grew up in St Louis, and supporting Augie is not only a way of life, it is our solemn duty. Whatever else you may choose to drink is just weasel pee compared with Augie's line of elixirs. Hooray for Michelob, Bud, and Busch.
