RE: Mistake?
Looks like this is probably the radio that comes with it or a non helicopter version of the same.

RE: Mistake?
Futaba does make a version of this radio, and it uses dry cell batteries. But the one listed at Tower is for the ground use version called the Attack 4WD. It could very well be an AM radio too.

RE: Mistake?
Anyone receive their A-10 yet? I have to wait two long days yet,but I did get my heli to keep me occupied!:D

RE: Mistake?
ORIGINAL: B Trimble is there any way to switch modes easily? Kinda new to this stuff. Had a few .40 trainers,4 ch. heli and such |
RE: Mistake?
Gee,I hope your right and they aren't using a "poser" radio.I imagine if it is a half decent model the electronics can be upgraded?

Thanks fellas,I will have to wait and see what the UPS man brings tomorrow. If it is "right hand" drive,I will have to check on ebay.

RE: Mistake?
did anyone get their's delivered yet?

RE: Mistake?
Shame on all of you for spectulating about that radio judging solely on the case? I know you all know better than that since it's the most generic Tx case out there. For $99 he's getting the most basic electronics available and 1000ft range would be stretching it. Don't even begin to expect a quality radios system on an RTF for $99. The first thing I would do is toss the radio as soon as it arrived.
The plane looks fun, but pictures can be fooling. It would be interesting to see if he actually gets what's pictured. I doubt you made a mistake, you can always upgrade the radio system. Good luck! Keep us posted. |
RE: Mistake?
Well fellas, the verdict is in. The bird is exactly as pictured,it does have a Sky Sport radio, however its not Futaba. The good news, the electronics are all seperate,so no problem upgrading. Assembly is pretty straight forward, and the instructions are not too spacific, but can be understood. However, may I point out a few things I discovered during assembly. 1.The little collars that hold the wheels onto the landing gear are aluminum, the grub screw is "steel" do not over tighten, better yet pick up 3 good ones from LHS.The supplied ones are really cheap. 2. The plane comes with a huge tube of cement, probably good for repairs as well as assembly, however,it is as messy as hell! 3. Have a tooth pick handy while cementing the tail fins onto the stabilizer, the cement will ooze out and glue the elevator flaps if not carefull.Just use toothpick to clean off cement.4. The kit comes with a roll of "scotch" like tape.I assumed it was for holding the motors to the air frame while cement was curing,as well as taping servo wires out of the way, however, if you like the paint on the plane,DO NOT USE TAPE ON EXTERIOR OF PLANE FOR ANY REASON!!!! It will remove the paint! 5. The motors are a pain in the ***** to mount,be creative,I already found out that the paint is easily removed with tape so I preceded to use tape to hold them in place while the cement cures.6.Do not over tighten the screws that hold the main and tail wing on,after all,the thing is foam! Over all I like it,haven't got a chance to fly it but it does look cool and can easily be upgraded. My first foamy, but I will give it a 7 out of 10 just because it looks cool,it's fully functional and upgradeable.I hope those that took the leap with me will be just as impressed.Good luck all.
P.S, I almost forgot, thanks Gorish, no it is not mode one. It's mode 2,"conventional" left stick throttle. |
RE: Mistake?
TEX,your right, cheap gear, but it can be replaced(thank god). Was kinda nervouse about that just in case it was mode 1! The bird is totalyl servicable, not sure about spare parts but I once read somewhere about applying some thing to foamies to make them more rigid.I cant remember where I read it though.I think I saw a video on YouTube of a GWS A-10 with brushless motors and he had mentioned something about coating the bird with something to make it stronger. Any ideas?

RE: Mistake?
They use carbon fiber rod
|
RE: Mistake?
No,he used an epoxy or something. I'll have to check you tube again,I think thats where I seen it.

RE: Mistake?
Here's what he did,how do I do it? 3/4oz cloth and MinWax Polycrylic
|
RE: Mistake?
On a side note. The battery charger that comes with the kit says 2 hours till charge, after two hours the pack does get quite warm. I fooled with the plane in living room with tape still holding motors on,let it run half, 3/4 throttle for 2 mins. to run batt. dry, well, battery got almost too hot to touch! I think I will drill a 9/16 inch hole or so in the nose so the battery can get air, what do you think? I also found out that with the stock set up and the throttle trim all the way down, power doesn't come on till 1/4 throttle or so. Max the trim up and it comes on instantly and has more top end.And the best thing yet(had me wondering after I ordered), the front wheel has its own servo to steer the bird on the ground. I was worried 'cause of the absence of rudder. But you do have ground control.
Any questions before your new bird arrives, don't be affraid to ask,as far as that goes, me being a "noob",don't be affraid to add! |
RE: Mistake?
Boy oh boy,I almost forgot. For those of you that are going to keep and use the box stock electronics,be sure to pull all servos and check the 4 little screws that hold the cases together. My aileron servo was about to fall apart! Thank god that servo had to be installed during assembly. Other than that, it all seems to work great.I had to reverse (normal) the aileron and rudder pits.Other than that,so far so good.

sportrider_fz6,how did he hold the motors fast while glue was drying? To late for me, but othrs might like to know.
thanks in advance.B |

RE: Mistake?
Tex,
I find it kind of interesting that you jump all over everyone's case for speculating on what kind of radio he will get, and you do the exact same thing by telling him to trash the radio before he even get's it.:eek::eek::eek: We all know now that this company uses false advertising by using Futaba radio's in there ad and then delivers a chinese clone. That's BS in my opinion. If your battery is getting to hot to touch after running at half throttle, your batt is not capable of handling the demands of the motor and will be short lived. |
RE: Mistake?
gunfighterII good point, but I had the plane against the coffee table just letting the motors run the battery down. You think the min. or two of 1/2,3/4 continuous throttle was a little too much for the battery? After all,the plane was not moving.
|
RE: Mistake?
B,
I'm assuming that this has 2 motors and the battery is a Nimh? How hot is the ESC getting? Cooling is a must for both the battery and the ESC, and it makes it worse to just run it on the ground without the added airflow over the electronics. Also if it's a nimh, it will need to be cycled a few times to build the pack up to capacity. When you test fly it, try to keep the throttle to a minimum, 1/2- 3/4 at most and see how hot everything is after your flight, you might need to step up to a bigger battery, but not knowing the ESC specs I'm not sure what you can do. After you test fly it, if it needs any attention come over to this thread and we'll help you with your problem. This forum is more geared toward the nitro crowd. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_63...age_316/tm.htm |
RE: Mistake?
gunfighterII,the instructions claim it has a 40A ESC. The battery is a 650 mah, 9.6v 8 cell Ni-Mh. After using the two hour wall charger the battery got warm, after the 1/2 3/4 throttle run down it was almost too hot to touch. Today,I charged it on my Super Brain, after about 15 min. I meandered out to take a peak and the charger showed 3/4 charge and almost 11v! Now I'm kinda new to electrics, but that didn't seem normal so I unplugged it,and it was hotter than hell, and you could hear it (battery) making like a gurgling noise. It didn't leak or anything,so about a half hour later I tried it in the plane. Still works, full throttle sounds the same, but the plane will not stay in the air.Even hand launching it,it just glides to the ground at full throttle. I'm hoping it's due to the battery, just under powered.
