RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
ORIGINAL: MikeL Fedex dropped off my Christen Eagle early this morning. Nice looking little plane! |
RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
Our plane was probably on the FedEx plane that crashed in Texas. Understand that both pilots are safe. Good.

RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
There is joy in Muddville today. The mighty Cox just delivered. I think I will tell my Grandson that they went bankrupt and he lost his money. He asked me every day if is plane came. Nah!! I can't do that. Whew!! what a tripBTW it does look nice for the price.

RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
Mabey that means that mine will be here shortly as well.
Glad to hear yours finally arrived. Hope your grandson has fun with it. |
RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models

RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
The giles 202 I ordered from cox models came today. It took a full month but well worth the wait at 49.99. I only wish I'd orderd 10 of them, for the quality and price I could sell them on ebay and make money. Can't imagine they made anything on this one, just closing out, as I notice they no longer show them on their site. A great deal.

RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
I absolutely abhor associating a model airplane with commodities and gold. But yes, some people do buy them as investments to make money. There are plenty of other starfish in the sea. I understand that an enterprising individual has gotta eat, especially in today's economy. But that doesn't mean I necessarily have to go the EBay route. Tower Hobbies has plenty enough parts on hand for their Great Planes models. Perhaps I should just work on my Ultimate 40 instead.

RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
My statement that I should have bought 20 to sell on ebay was really a joke, just meaning thats how good a deal they are. As for actually selling them on ebay to make an profit, by the time you got them, reboxed, auctioned, paid ebay and paypal fees, spent half a day shipping them, etc, you'd be lucky to make anything at the price things are selling for. Seriously, though, ebay has been a good resource for me when I've had stuff I got tired of and couldn't figure out what to do with it, and I've also bought some nice gear from other modelers there. As far as associating model airplanes with commodities and gold, I would much rather have the model airplanes, at least you can play with them.

RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
I used to sell a lot of airplane related items on the bay but lately the waters have been muddied with all the rule changes. I still have a bunch of engines in "inventory" from .020" through .46", a lot of vintage pieces as well as modern. Been kinda tough to make ends meet now. [&o]

RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
My Giles was wainting for me on the front step when I got home. I called customer service last Friday to see what was up as I had seen a few posters here saying they got their's. I was told they would try to start shipping out this week. Hard to be patient when other people are getting their's. It would have been much harder to be patient if I had seen what I was about to receive. This thing is freakin' nice. I am surprised to see such nice work and the balsa and plywood seems to be from a first rate source. I am also very surprised to see how light this thing is. I weighed everything that will be going into it short of the electrical system (making it a BL conversion), and the airframe, landing gear, cowl and windshield come in at 43oz. It must have been for lack of advertising that they couldn't hold on, because this is a great plane. (we'll see how it flies).

Need any engines?:eek::D

RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
Thanks Jeffie,
I actually have two that I have yet to mount in a plane. I have that Aviastar .53 that I picked up this past fall for my 4* and I bought a Magnum .52 FS that I was originally going to put in the Giles, but I decided to grab a different plane for that, and get BL for the Giles. Good luck out there though. Curtis |

I just had to chime in ya know.;)[sm=lol.gif]

RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
I see that almost all the planes are sold out. Wondering if they are going to call it quits. In fact I think all the planes were sold out.
|
RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
Yeah,
They're all gone. Too bad. Even at 79.99, which was the previous sale price of that Giles, that would have been a great deal. At $58 shipped, the thing is a steal. I figured as such Jeffie. Regards, Curtis |
RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
Yeah, the ebay thing sort of collapsed. I was running a parttime business selling musical instruments on the bay and it made some decent extra money until the middle of 07, then things just started to quit selling. I ended up closing out my stock at a loss. This must have been a warning that the economy was about to get into trouble, but I didn't see it. Christmas time, usually good, was dead. I tried to revive the business again this Christmas season, but again, totally dead. Now I've totally given up. By the way, I noticed someone advertising a PT-20 kit on ebay with an ebay id of investment toys. What was unusual about the ad was he said he bought the kit new in 1950, had raised 5 kids since then, etc, and never started the kit and now wanted to sell it. I don't know if his memory slipped or what, but I was born in 1951 and I remember the PT20 coming out in the 80's sometime. Isn't that right? Here is the ebay id for that ad:360121502205 if anyone wants to see it.

RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
The PT 20 came out in the September '85 issue of RC Modeler and it would have had to be after that for Great Planes to have it.

RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
You know, I can understand paying a pretty penny for a kit I want. I don't have any trouble with someone charging an arm and a leg. If they can get it, more power to them.
I also don't have any problem with people buying up quantities of close-out products to resell. I don't do that myself, but that's just because I'm not that enterprising. We aren't a team. We're a bunch of consumers. If somebody can make a buck, good for them. At the same time, if somebody makes a decision that costs them some money, too bad. Personal responsibility matters. |

A free market society?

RE: Anyone have problems with Cox Models
I would have to say I agree, our hobby is also a business for some, and we are consumers. Just look at all the people trying to sell us stuff on this website. They are not doing it because they are philanthropists, they need to make some money at it to keep going, developing new products, etc. Without that incentive modeling would stagnate, we'd still be building stik and tissue rubber band models, but, hey, I really enjoyed those too when I was a kid. My observation is no one is making a killing selling old rc kits because they were fairly expensive in the price for the time they were bought, and the prices they get today don't keep up with inflation. An 80's kit bought for $50 in 1980's money should now sell for over $200, but I never see them go that high, more like a little over $100. Actually, the ones that really seem to be worthwhile investments were some of those rubber and balsa kits from the 50's and 60's. I do remember buying a couple of Ranger 30 free flights direct from goldberg in the early 60's for $2.50 each, and now they sell for $80 or over. Now thats a pretty good return.
