RE: Minnesota Fun Fly?

June 20th is an open date at my field also www.grassfieldrc.org but its also my wifes birthday...

So, as long as I'm home to take her out to dinner I'm fine :)

how far is Jordan from Andover??

Can't remember if its North or South of the cities.

Also, is there sound restrictions at your club, and would they  mind if I brought airplanes that do roughly 180 mph??

Jordan is a cruise from Andover, it is a little south of Shakopee, as far as I know there is no sound restrictions, I do know we do have one jet pilot at the club, who has flown without a problem. I just like the idea of trying to meet other people in the addiction (hobby) in this area, I also love to see different planes. www.tcrconline.comhere is a link to the flying area http://www.tcrconline.com/flyingfield.htm

Golly!

Paved runways....

After flying off paved runways, my planes might refuse to go back to my little grass field... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...eeth_smile.gif

I am spoiled with the paved runways, it is all I have ever know, it gives me a goal for every landing ;) besides the ground ;)

Jordan is maybe 40 minutes south of the Cities on HWY 169.

I'm this year's president of St Paul Model Radio Controllers (Ham Lake field) and we have a master event calendar linked on our website. We have the TCRC Open House listed on the calendar. I've never been down to TCRC but if I can, I'd like to run down there.

It depends on where you are, I live in Plymouth and it takes me about 45 minutes to get down there, a little farther then what I want to drive, but I know several of the people down there and feel at home.

I also want to visit your club and grassfields.

Me too, I've heard a lot about the grass fields

RE: Minnesota Fun Fly?

Well, I have been the Vice Prez of Grassfield since 2000, so you are all welcome to stop by. My only caution is the pylon guys that tend to flood the field on Saturdays. Some people aren't comfortable with planes that loud, fast, and close. Most are respectfull, and normally only fly on Saturdays so if any of you wanted to stop by on a Sunday, or are unnerved by a little speed, just let me know and I can meet you at the field and let you fly as a guest.

We have plenty of flyover space, and a nice grassfield about 300 x 500 foot. Not sure if he is planting corn or beans this year, but they should be coming up in the next month or so...

Hopefully we can keep the field for years to come, but the project for completing 10 thru to Rogers has gotten funds, so the speculation is that we will lose our field at some point.

I think I'm going to try to make it too!  I haven't been on the forums lately, I'm lucky I found this thread.  I have turned my attention to my 67 mustang restoration project since it has been so windy lately.  I am going to a sporting clay event in hutchinson that morning, and by the afternoon I should be able to make it down there!  Now I haven't flown off a paved runway or landed, is there anything we need to do to the wheels to slow our planes down because at idle they will move and we don't have brakes?

MinnFlyer 05-26-2009 09:39 AM

RE: Minnesota Fun Fly?

Lower your idle :D

If for some reason you can't get the idle low enough, you could add a tiny piece of fuel line to the axle so it puts just a tiny bit of side pressure on the wheel.

RE: Minnesota Fun Fly?

A couple of my planes the idle is a bit hot, but I have never had a problem, we also keep our grass cut pretty short, so you can always land in the grass next to the field.  I have also been know to drive the plane around in a circle while waiting to take off.

Congrats Curtis (beau_99 I think) for winning first place in our clubs building contest in the sport plane section, it looks like he got his 4*done.  Here is an article about it http://www.tcrconline.com/documents/...s/June2009.pdf (It is a large PDF so be forewarned)  There are also pictures in the newsletter of the float fly with one members 120 size stik riding on top of his smart car[:-]</p>

I don't have any planes on floats Gene. All of my seaplanes (4 at last count) are flying hulls. :D

I may be a revolutionary putting an electric motor in an Ultra Sport. (You're still going to maiden it right???) But even Iwouldn't suggest such a thing as floats on an Ultra Sport.
