what clearance for pinion gear?
i am going to press on a pinion gear onto a 2.3 mm shaft. what clearance should i have between the pinion gear and the motor? .001? .0005?

I'm wondering why you'd think it would make a difference?
I'm no expert, but I'd assume that you could put it as close as you want as long as it doesn't touch, then leave an extra hair for any play in the shaft.
But if you're putting on a pinion gear, you'll need to match that gear to the spur gear. On my GWS products, the pinion gear is further away than what you're suggesting.
If you want me to measure it for you, let me know.

nonono. i mean let's say if my motor shaft is (random number) .125" what should i drill my pinion gear out for? .125? .124? .126? etc.

For a 2.3mm (.090" ) shaft, use a #43 drill (.089" ) This will give a nice tight press fit.
