3s1p lipo too much power for a brushed 480 with gb?
Gentlemen:
Is a 3s1p lipo too much power for a brushed 480 with gb? I bought a plane at the HL sale, the phoenix. It comes with a brushed 480 and gb. I normally fly brushless, but since it has the motor already attached and it's free and I have a 20 amp esc sitting in the drawer I thought I'd use it. Is a 3s1p lipo 11.7 volts too much for a brushed 480 w. gb? Or should I use a 8cell NIMH? Thoughts?

Most of the brushed 480 motors cannot handle that amount of voltage. They are generally rated as a 7.2 volt motor I believe. Some are rated at 12 volts, but those are usually the race versions.

Your speed control for the brushed motor will most likely not have a low voltage cut off to protect the lipos.
