Sullivan makes a drive for the CT4S. Their's is called a Tiger Drive. You can go to there web site and find the drive for the CT4S. Tower Hobbies also sells it. The one you will need is the S680. Its $18.39, the last time I checked.

The problem with the Tiger Drive is that it is installed at a right angle to the crank and from the pictures on CEN's website it looks like there isn't enough room to get the start shaft to the drive. The best option is to ditch the pullstart all together and get a starter box.

Hi Guys,
I just want to let you know that you can indeed use a Rotostart for you CT4S. I got my car doing some custom work for a freind to his LST. He had a Tiger Drive on it and for him to have it he drilled out the bottom of the chassis. I don't care to much for pull starts and I hated the livin hell out of that tiger drive. I have a Savage and I was curious if the stock roto start would work on the car. To my surprise it does and it does perfectly. Get the Stock rotostart backplate and one way bearing for the HPI Nitro Star 25 and Walla! You have now got rotostart without having to do any modifications : ) I first thought the exhaust would get in the way, but it doesn't. You do have to hold it at a very slight angle, but I have not had one single problem with it all and it starts everytime. I do hope this is some good info for some of you guys and hopefully any one of you can help me with soon to be released post with some questions.

Your right about the Roto-Start working perfectly. At first I thought it wouldn't work since the exhaust was in the way but it works perfectly as all you need to do is slightly tilt the shaft and start it.
I think pull starts are garbage, wate of time and silly to even put it on there! My Rotostart has been doing fine for several dozen starts now.

this might sound crazy but if you take it off you could just start it with a drill put the rod in the drill bit hole and turn it on. it basically a roto starter you already own.

For that HPI trick, would that be parts:
87117 - BACK PLATE UNIT FOR NITRO STAR BB SERIES AND FORCE 21 / 25
87110 - HPI ROTO START SYSTEM
Or is anything else required?
Regards,
Lars

If you already have a rotostart? then all you need is the backplate for the S-25. If you don't have either then you will have to get both and the #'s are easy to find on HPI website. The problem with the tiger drive is first, you will have to cut out your chassis for it to work. I got my car already like that and it was completly stupid. Pain in the butt just to hold the car up in the air and come underneath with a drill start. On top of that it hung low so it would hit the ground when you made left turns or any small dip in the asphalt. Actually cool for doughnuts, but that got old super fast and you would tear the tiger drive up anyway. Secondly, I know Sullivan says they are for cars and trucks, but were first designed for other vehicles. The thing wants to start chewing up the shaft that it goes on and I haven't seen it with just this car. Any car or truck I have seen it do that. This car for whatever reason didn't even come close to performing with it on. I thought it was a ton of other things holding it back and some of it was with the clutch, but even after going through all of the problems. When I first put on the rotostart it was running perfectly. It's like the Tiger Drive was to tight on it and not allowing it to spin good or something and thats probably why it chews those shafts. Rotostart is just much easier and you will not have to modify anything. I have had it on my car for a few months now and have never had a problem yet. I even put a savage three shoe clutch and flywheel on it as well and that also made a difference in excelleration. I love this car, but I swear my next car will not be belt driven and it will have a stronger engine mount as this one flexes just a little to much. I hoped that helped you out some and yes you can alway's use a starter box, but rotostart is cheaper, is not as big and bulky to lug around and every bit as easy to start. You can also use a drill and socket to just go over the one way bearing, but the prob with that is. Nothing is going to cover the back of the engine for starters and you will either have to slide the one way on and then use your drill or weld the one way to a socket so you won't have to slide it on first.

Hi again,
The Cave: I was looking at http://www.hpieurope.com/options.php...en&type=engine
But the part numbers seem to match US numbers (see http://www.hpiracing.com/piw4.php?part=87117)
I do not have a roto start allready, but this looks like a reasonable priced, nice way to get rid of that pull start.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Lars

For the CT4 there isn't enough space to use the Tiger Drive. It should work fine on your ATX just be careful not to over prime it or you could damage the engine.

I used the rotor start kit which has "starter wand" the "back plate" that replaces the pull start. I'm pretty sure I used #87120.. by the looks of it. It works for my CT4S and all I have to do is tilt the wand so it slides under the exhaust and fit it in the drive box. I mounted the plate so the gear box is on the bottom.
