im ordering all the new parts to get my genesis up and running again. i tried to order part #gs096 which is the differential shim- it goes between the gasket(#gs075) and the gear itself. the problem is, when i went to order the shims at my lhs(offshore electrics), cen said that part gs096 isnt being used anymore, and now its just the gasket(gs075) between the gear and the diff case. i dont want to assemble the diff without the shim because im worried the inner gears will grind down when its being run. the diffs came with the shim installed and the diff gasket, so why all of a sudden would cen not be selling shims anymore? what should i do?

Take a metal file to the gears inside the diff, if you cannot file any shaving off of the gears there is very little chance you will grind those gears down. The diff gears are virtually indestructable. I reassembled my diffs withtout the shims as per CEN and I have no problems!!
However if you want to put shims back.....Oh by the way if you had shims in there before you torn it apart why not re-use the shims that came out?????
Anyway if you must put the shims back , you could find the shims on-line(eBay).

the shims i took out are destroyed because i drilled out the screws and 1 didnt drill out so i was trying to "twist" the gear off the case and the shim bent badly. ill just put it together without the shims and ill see how it does. thanks for the help
