Found a new place to run yesterday... brought out the Cen mt2, kyosho usa-1 and rustler... My friend had his x-factor and his big $$ t-maxx... We were getting ready for the rematch... last time the maxx melted the clutch and gears... This time I was warming up the mt2 by blasting across the parking lot when the truck going full speed suddenly pulled to the right and stalled... when I got to the truck I found both rear diff cups shattered.. (they were modded) two broked rear dog bones and 2nd gear stripped clean of teeth... Needless to say, I wasn't thrilled but it happens.. I can't figure out why this happened this way.. I was running flat and smooth and no turns... Of course, I didn't have two rear dog bones to replace the broken ones, so the race was off again.. By the way, the maxx was running like junk again... that engine is very hard to hold tune... I will have to fix the mt2 and we'll try again...
By the way, because we had so many trucks with us, we still had a great time until the police came and said the guy who just laid down the lines on the ballfield was mad at us for erasing all his work.. The cop just laughed and told us not to drive on the dirt part of the infield... OOOOOOPS...

bizzare stuff...
i guess ur wheels still rotate freely? no bearing failures etc? must have been a serious lockup to shatter the modded cups instead of just locking the wheels up. is ur diff ok? if a tooth broke in there and locked that up... or like censpares said, a dogbone trying to escape... hard to say, damn shame tho, im sure hope u wup that tmaxx for makin u break ur truck!
very strange one mate, let us know what u find, there must be some evidence there somewhere. are u replacing the dogbones with cvs? they stay in place a bit better...

the problem is the dog bones or the cups... I don't know which broke first... all I found was the broken cups, never found the dog bones... Send me a link to the mod for the cvs that work.. maybe i'll try that... I'm getting tired of fixing these and its getting a bit costly......
as far as what cen spares said... its probably correct... just hard to tell there is a problem until parts start shattering....

wahey - i just found a cam lead!
i havent done the rear tmaxx/cen shafts yet, but i have some pics of the fronts as i built them up, not a step by step guide, but here is what i have on the cam. its a bit of work, but it seems to work ok so far...

u may be able to figure out exactly what ive done from those, if not, no worries, i will post the step by step of the rears as i do them. u can see what i did with the shock mount tho, to give clearance for the shaft when steering, and the finished look may give u guys a bit more inspiration to do the mod! i love the look of it meself...

Poor Judgement... I think your my hero.... This is exactly what I'm looking to do... I hope the inner cvd between the diff and the maxx axle shaft is strong enough... Please let me know asap... my truck is down and I would use this to fix it instead of throwing money into stock...

well the fronts held up for 2 tanks while i retuned the motor, but the cen shafts gave up as soon as i nailed the throttle once tuned a bit better. my only real concern is that the inner cvs are not joined by a pin thru the diff like the cen diff cups... i will run it as much as possible as i just moved house right next to a park. i am quite busy with the house n all that, but i will do my best to keep u informed over the next few weeks mate.
the shafts have absolutely no slop at all, the wheels are so well located compared to the cen setup, it really puts the cen shafts to shame.
now why the hell didnt someone at cen do something like this? we have been crying out for it for long enough...

Check this out, it may help you. Place your chassis on a flat surface and push down on the chassis while checking the end play in the axle shaft. If at any point in the suspension travel the end play is gone, adjust the width of the front, or rear, track until there is some clearance. Since I have adjusted mine, I haven't broken any cups or shafts. When that truck hits the ground and the shafts bottom out, something has to give. If you modify the cups, then the shaft fails or the pivot balls are forced out of the control arms. On the other hand, the shocks and springs must do their job and absorb the energy of the drop. . . .

gofaster72.. thanks for the help... believe me I setmine roughly the same as do most others on the site... I'm thinking of getting rid of the modded diff cups because i have found that the dog bone or cvd doesn t break if the diff cup breaks first.. .now... finding the dog bone after a failure is always fun...
my shocks and springs are t-maxx integy and losi springs... very soft and stable...its those diff cups that drive me madddddddd....
