Hey guys, I finished my twin 4-stroke. [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2881391/tm.htm]prior post[/link]
Thanks for the advice, I decided to get some savage-shocks with stiffer springs but I still thought it needed more, see pics.
Does anyone make a center skid plate and/or metal chassis brace(s) GS048 ? replacing them with aluminum would make the chassis much stronger and I have a cracked upper one.
Thanks

That is a ver very impressive machine. We are definitely interested in seeing how this beast perform. The "Grave Digger" body is very appealing as well. Very nice work~
Have you checked with Hardcore Racing or New Era Models for center chassis brace?

Thanks CEN,
As far as performance, I've never seen a stock Genesis in person but I think It can do every thing I see in the videos except wheelies (no center diff lock) but with more painful landings. It will spin all 4 tires on dry pavement with no problem and cruise through 6 inch tall grass with some bogging. I'm almost hoping the engine blows up so I can try the Saito 182 with more then twice the HP I have now.
The extra weight is definitely testing the parts. My latest breakage was the front differential pinion gear. I think it walked forward and shattered after hitting the aluminum differential case.
I have been doing some research on diffs and I am assuming that the Genesis is using the "standard" 7.5 Kyosho size diffs.
I have found some aluminum diff cases at:
[link=http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/cgi-bin/store/13551.html?id=GHFUgCJ4]http://www.unlimitedengineering.com[/link]
It looks to me that the Genesis diff guts will fit, what do you think?
They also have a 7.5 8 spyder gear "bombproof" diff for Tmaxx's but my only problem is with the diff drive cups breaking at the spyder gear pin hole. It doesn't look like their drive cups are any stronger unless in material or hardening.
The Ofna Torsen diffs look cool and would be great for when the front tire lifts while cornering. Does anyone have any experience with one of them? I don't think it would last long for me but maybe?

Wow.
Thats some piece of kit. I bet the 4 stroke sounds realy meaty too. When can we hear it running? I am inpressed to see the second servo for the steering, I wondered how I was going to do it. Did you use a 'y' cable or a special 'servo combiner board'?

Genesis_twin, the truck looks good I was thinking about doing that to my X-Factor but one question. It doesn't have a pull start so how do you start it?

Thanks Guys, (except magogat)
wilsog,
It sounds great, not too loud to run in the back yard without pissing off the neighbors. I had just installed mufflers and it was really quiet, stealth mode, almost too quiet. I will try to get video soon. I am using a Y cable. I originally tied the servos together to sync the front and rear steering. I have gone back to front steering only for now but kept the second servo. I used steel brake line tubing smashed flat at each end. The front wheels will now steer fully while sitting still in grass.
rolland,
I use a 12V airplane style starter with a rubber wheel to spin the flywheel, like the old days before nitro pull starters. At first it did not have enough torque to turn it over. I am now using an 18V battery and it works fine.
mulletman,
I bought the engine in the early '80s it is an OS FT-120 old style. There is no kit. I used aluminum angle for the front and rear motor mounts and hacked it together with hand tools and a belt sander. The hardest part would be finding a clutch and flywheel large enough and with the right threads. I got mine back then from a hobby store that specialized in helicopters. The gears and hub are the stock parts from the transmission with the one way bearing replaced by a standard one.
I got the Genesis on e-bay with no engine for $300 and had the engine sitting around for 20+ years. any idiot would like that deal.
I have done some more mods and will post them soon, aluminum upper and lower chassis braces, a brake torque multiplier, aluminum servo saver and bell crank, air filled tubes in the tires and I just got the Saito 182 installed. The FT-120 broke a rod and scored the crankshaft after a cap screw fell out. They don't sell parts for it anymore and like ThunderbirdJunkie says: MORE POWER. FT-120 = 1.7HP Saito 182 = 2.8HP and way more torque then any nitro 2 stroke.

My original FT-120 was redesigned as the FT-120 II and then became the bored out FT-160. They don't sell the original FT-120 parts anymore. My new Saito 182 is current production and all parts are available. I was kinda hoping the FT-120 would go out so I would have an excuse to upgrade

I think that the single cylinder will have more HP for the same displacement twin. I have never owned a single but I guess I would recommend something large that will rev as high as possible.
I think there are some 4 strokes out there made for cars so you wouldn't need a fan. Oops, I just looked at OS engines and the 4 stroke car engine is tiny.
Make sure you gear it up. I like the twin to keep the COG down lower, maybe you could mount the single on it's side ( don't have the glow plug pointing down).
I have an OS and Saito and like them both. Go to the engine forum to look for more info. Oh ya, a built in fuel pump and/or supercharger would be very cool.
