i just got my first small shipment of parts just was reading on the back of the fuel filter to find this:
warning:
This product may contain fuels which contain one or more chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.
is this anything to worry about or just wash my hands after handling it?

If that scares you how about this... I recently purchased a pre-lit x-mas tree for the house.. There were at least 5 warning labels that this product contains lead and to keep away from children and prolonged contact... Forget about the labels of birth defects...[&o]...
Seriously, just wash your hands and you'll be fine... This tree was sent back to Lowes where it was purchased for a refund...

and why just the state of california wouldnt it be the same for every one ? or are californians differnt?

There are different laws for different states. It is just a general warning to cover the manufacturer, in case some person or child was to use the equipment in the wrong way.

Washing hands after using R/C Nitro fuel is definately recommended. It doesn't taste very good. ; )

I think California has a lot more strict laws on things than most other states. I know like automobiles must meet much stricter pollutions regulations in California than anywhere else. Anyone in California know if this is the same for all products?

I wouldn't say Califorinia has the strictest emission regulations. Pierce and King counties in Washington state just recently made it so 1980 and older cars are exempt. Up untill last year all automobiles made since 1968 had to be inspected and the acceptable readings are allot more stringent than Califorinia.

Rolland. This is off topic, but while we are talking about emmissions. Do you have state run emmissions stations in Washington? Missouri hired this company to do state run emmissions tests so you can no longer take it to a service station to get an emmissions test. You have to go to a special place (and there are only a few) to get the emmissions test then get the regular safety inspection. How does Washington state do it?

Yes we have state run testing centers. The exact procedure I am unsure of because the newest car that I own is a 73 Volkswagen. But I do have a number of friends that have V8's in their jeeps and off road trucks that were not allowed to pass or even to test because they have an aftermarket engine from a different manufacturer in their vehicle.
My opinion is that if an automobile can the test it should be able to be certified regardless of the modifications to it.

I avoid the fumes as much as possible. I can tell by the way it stings the INSIDE OF MY FACE that it cant be good for you!

Although...prolly better for you than smoking!

A lot of the products I use at work have this same warning on them. Jokingly, I mentioned it to my supervisor when I first started seeing them.

His response:

It has benzyne in it, you need to keep that crap washed off your hands when you can. They're not just saying it, it's proven to cause cancer. It gets easily absorbed through your skin...

I live 13 miles north of DOW Chemical and DOW Corning World HQs.. as well as both their local plants. Benzyne is one of the products the moves daily thru my area. and people wonder why the fish around here glow pink and have 4 eyes and buy you a drink at the local watering hole... to bad im not a drinker *wink wink*

eveything has that warning on it in Cali.., even the air would have warning labels on it in cali if they could find a way to make it stick...

The warning on the filter is prob just because of the oil on the filter.

Wiring and connectors and some rtf kits are coming with that cancer warning now. I'm told that a lot of the plastics used in China where these rc products are made use cancer causing materials during manufacturing. The reason CA has the warning is that the feds are too lame to protect the public from hazards so its up to the states to do so and only CA spends the big bucks to research these things. I wish a scientist would chip in and let us know how serious a problem this is.

I know from experience that anything manufactured today that has lead or toxic materials requires this label to be placed on it for legal reasons here in CA. It seems that many frivolous lawsuits have arose from not putting this label on products and to combat this, manufactures that reside in CA now place this on nearly anything that is suspect. CA also has some of the more stringent EPA laws in the world to try and combat pollution.

Just so you all know, it is always a good idea to wash your hands with soap and water after you have handled your RC car and truck and especially if you have handled the Nitro fuel.
