do you really believe cen when they tell you that the engine in the genesis have 5 horsepower? take a look at www.osengines.com and compare hp ratings to the 46 vx-df airplane engine. that engine is the same size and the rpm is 28000 which is a great deal more than the cen engines 22500. how can it be that the cen engine generates 5 horses when the os of the same size is only rated at 2.5 horses and that is with even more rpms than the cen engine. it just makes me wonder??? I might add to that that I did own a genesis that dissapointed me a lot, both power wise and especially quality wise[:'(]. luckily I got my money back from my lhs
. take in mind that the carb on the cen engine is only 7.5 mm, thats less than most 21 engines pluss the pipe on the genesis isn`t exacly a very well designed one from a performance point of view

The funny things about dynos and HP ratings whether it's in the RC world or the full size world is no two will ever be the same. Dyno numbers are a good for tuning and R&D. The key is to get a baseline dyno, record ambient conditions, and then make your changes. Re-dyno on the same dyno and apply any correction factors for ambient conditions to see if the change was plus or minus. The only way to compare the CEN 5.0 HP number to the OS number is to dyno on that exact same dyno under the same exact ambient conditions. Will the CEN produce 5.0 HP on that dyno? I doubt it. Their 5.0 HP number comes from, I would guess, engineering calculations based on volumetric efficiency as there is no standards in the RC world for HP ratings as their is in the full size (SAE). Most dynos I am familiar with in the automotive and R&D world employ an inertia drum, an Eddie current brake, a water brake (both of the previous are AKA load dynos), or a motoring dyno. All four of these type use different methods to measure Torque and calculate HP. All have their place but no two will ever read the same HP on the same engine. A dyno is also only as good as it's calibration. Dynos need regular calibration (load cells, lambda sensors, temp sensors, etc, etc.). These calibrations can make egos or brake egos and can be skewed to suit the particular need of the dyno operator. If the operator is trying to sell you a part their calibration settings will be set more on the ego side.
Dyno numbers are all relative and should never be taken as gospel.
The true test for any engine is how it performs on the track. I've got a street/strip car that I dyno pretty regularly and my HP and TQ numbers don't mean ***** unless I can back them up on the drag strip.

no I did not have the le. I had the 3`rd generation genesis. both me and my friend had one each, and they were both equally bad. bad radio, leaky shocks,broken drivetrain,bad engine,weak pullstarter,no where close to doing 50 miles as adverticed,3`rd gear would not engage. all in all it was the worst toy I have ever had, rc or not.It was lying in parts most of the time on my workbench during the year I had it. no fun at all.I wonder how many generations or editions cen has to make before it finally is of the same quality as other brands. the first one even had spur gears of plastic
not even their hardened metal gears lasted on our cars, brittle as crystal.maybe the le is good, maybe not. the radio is ok thats for sure,the car? I don`t know. why take the chanse. get a fg monster instead.

I have the limited edition (LE) which is the newest edition. So far I am pretty happy with it. I am returning to RC stuff from a 21 year break so I am not up to speed on all the trucks out there. I did a lot of research on the different brands before I bought the CEN. I decided in the end that all the truck have just as much potential as the next and I bought what I liked.
Most of the breakage I've had so far was from driver error (hitting solid objects). I've got about 1 gallon thru it so far. Next wednesday I am taking it to my local track for an open nitro night to see how it does. I've done a lot of work to it so far to improve handling (ditched the X10 shocks, went with the stiff white springs, no spacers on the shocks, dog bones are level, etc). It's actually worlds better from when I first got it. That thing would tip over if you looked at it wrong. Now I can go into a turn pretty hot and it stays planted. I still need to adjust my camber a bit and put on the sniper tires (and 23 mm wheel hexes) and I think I should do ok, at least for a rookie!! LOL!! The only thing I am afraid of is they said they may lump me into the unlimited class. I want to be in super double rookie class so I don't have to worry about guys with Piccos in their Savages lapping me every 45 seconds!!

hi Jpk, go out and woop those savages. Maybe cen eventually got the genesis right. they should have just done som testing before they released it, that way they had avoided upsetting a lot of people like my self due to useless cars.rock on

Yeah all my breaks on the LE is from newbie driver error. Believing that it could do anything. Well hitting curbs at over 30 mph does break things, lessoned learned stay on the dirt not the asphalt. And don't try to get your cop friends to check the speed in a parking lot, that was the second time I hit the curb, and it was the same one only 20 feet down [>:].
I like my LE. I'm not going to race it, but it takes a beating out on the motorcycle track and keeps coming back. I will replace the steering servo one of these days, and I do like how the Revo TMaxx start, but the look of it is awesome, mean looking. I know Cen has been around alot in the aftermartket arena and in the next few years the Genesis or Nemesis will be a truck to really be taken seriously.
When I get money for a second one for the wife it will not be a Genesis, but maybe the Matrix or go with the Savage or something.. I would love to have a Nemesis too, but the next one will be cheaper and easier for her to use..... I don't want to be like having to bait her fishing hook "Hunny the car stopped can you go out there in the dirt and start it.... Pleeaasssseeee"

I owned a Genesis and very happy with it. Does it really have 5 hp? I Dont know and carless... all i know is it is **** load of torque/power and i can bash it all i want.
Its not as fast as the racing .26 because the genesis engine doesnt have high rpm like those racig engiens. Horsepower alone doesnt win a race..

i feel the engine has 5 hp cant follow that o.s. dyno test my hyper 21 was rated 2.5 hp and dont pull like this engine or even come close my lrp z28 is rated at 3.9 hp and that engine has some torque and my brother collari .32 and my other brothers nova 528 3 port still doesnt pull like this nemesis engine or even come close and thats more proof to me than any dyno test.

hp and torque is two different things. the hyper 21 doesn`t make 2.5horses on a real dynotest anyway. the horsepower companies claim their engines have is more than often greatly streched. do not trust them
