Went out about an hour ago to play with the FunFactor.
So far I have not had any really brutal crashes. Broken diff cups, front axles and front diff case is about all! All the parts that break anyway according to you guys!
I noticed when I hit the brakes (completly upgraded) that the front wheels were locking and then free wheeling and then locking again...and the clacking/grinding noise of gears could be heard...Shut eveything down and tore the front diff apart AGAIN!
Every single part inside fell out in the hole in the bottom of the case in the form of chips, chunks and powder all mashed together with grease.
Looks like what happened was the 3 screws (Tpfh2x15) that hold the internal gear housing (FF004) to the bevel gear sheared right off. These chewed up the internal gear housing into mush including the spider gears (FFS027) which in turn tore 1/2 the teeth off my bevel gear (FFS028)!
Does anyone know how this happened? Did I do something wrong? Everything in the diff. is stock. Except now I will be ordering the hardened steel components!
Anyway, now I sit and wait for 2 weeks (Cause I live in Canada and I order parts from CustomRCCars.com) with the FF back to two wheel drive.
I HATE two wheel drive....I waited SOOOOOO long for my front axles to get in and now this!
...and I still have not even installed my OS .18 CV-RX engine I got last week!
This bites...I have had my FF for 40 days and I spend more time fixing and tweaking than I do playing! NUBE pains I guess!
Let me know everyone...I wanna get my FF running such that I dont have to fix something every 5 tanks!

I know this may sound obvious but when you last stripped your diffs, could you possibly have put the diff back in the casing the wrong way round? ie, with the bevel gear on the left hand side as you look at it from the front. For the diff to fail so catastrophically, it must have been something REALLY wrong with the setup. If you had put the diff back incorrectly, you would have essentially been running the two diffs against each other until one of them gave out. Just an idea.

Bootmachine... I had the same thing happen twice with my FF.. You need to replace the Y shaped spider gear yoke with the upgraded version... Better and thicker steel.. I haven't broken one since... If you took your diff apart for any type of cleaning you may have forgotten to reshim the gears.. This is critical to the longevity of the diff... I doubt the gears were put in worng because they won't fit... Unfortunately, you also broke the bevel gear which is sort of expensive.. when mine broke, it took out the diff itself, stripped the bevel gear and also, knocked a hole in the front diff housing... pretty cool but ended my bashing on vacation on Marthas Vinyard last summer.....

I know its not my assembly because you cant assemble the diff backwards. Plus I have lubed the back one and had it apart twice as many times as the front...and its still fine...I didnt forget to re-shim, I put the factory shims back in EXACTLY where they came from and checked for play/binding after assembly.
Upon further thought I think it may be my driving. I'm getting pretty good with technical stuff but I have been going from flat out 2nd gear to full wheel lock, sliding into a corner and then full throttle out of the corner....over and over again! I figured the FF could take this abuse but I guess not. I think MAYBE what happened was those 3 screws sheared off from being pounded on so much...once they broke all it took was a little time for the rest of the parts to go.
Then again...I think I have a lemon. I had a broken connecting rod earlier after only a gallon...and I was SO taking care of the engine. I followed Cen's nitro "Handbook" to the letter.
Good to hear at least I'm not the only one this has happened to!

May just be a case of bad luck. On the other hadn My FF has had nothing but good luck. Maybe you got a monday morning or friday afternoon manufactured FF[&o].
It's always nice to have the hardened parts in tehre anyway.

It is a combo of driveing but definately not bad luck... I used to think that way, but I now know its mostly set-up... Your problem bootmachine is the Y piece.. If you get the new one, its much stronger.. I got that advice from Andy or Mike at Cen... Thats what they recommended for their racing trucks... Like I said, Mine don't break anymore... and besides... Do you think you drive any different than anyone else... You should see some of the stuff I do to mine... 50 mph passes followed by full brakes.. donuts and drifting... If I can do it, I do... not to mention all the crashing...

ok, I will order all the upgraded pieces and take care with the assembly!
Good to know that I can reef on the brakes though. I was beginning to wonder just how much TLC was necessary!
