Hey guys. Just thought I would post a suggestion on a new air filter set-up I ran across. If you have a Advance Auto Parts in your area, go in and find the area where they have import bling. There you will find a K & N type filter that is used to vent crankcases on autos. Fits perfectly on the Nem/Gen carburetor. I use a nylon over the exterior of this filter, and then cinch it to the carb with a small hose clamp. I'm now able to run several tanks through it without the filter needing cleaned. With stock filter I had to clean it after every tank, as I live in a sandy area (Florida), and sand would cling to the top of the stock filter like it was coated with molasses. Seems to breathe much better also. Filters are available in several colors, as well as chrome. Would suggest using K & N filter oil on it also. The filter is only $10, and is a big improvement as far as I'm concerned, and you always have the stock one for a back-up if needed.

It doesn't get as dirty because it lets all the dirt go into your engine. I've heard plenty of stories about people haveing a shot motor after not much run time using one of them.

Yeah, although it can keep most contaminates out for car tolerances it does not filter anywhere near good enough for the Nitro engines. I can't warn you enough to put your sponge elements back in, or look toward R/C minded companies for aftermarket support. There are some out there for .30 and larger engines, I believe Motor Saver makes one.

I've been using K & N filters on my race bikes for years. IMHO nothing filters better. It doesn't get as dirty because all the dirt/sand doesn't fall directly into the filter as it has a top on it. Also, RB Innovations, a major RC supplier sells a K & N filter for their high performance air filter set-ups, only for about $30.

Get a good name brand, lots of knock offs are out there that have a gap of almost twice as many microns as a K&N.
Make sure to clean and oil your filter regularly, If your filter is too dry, it will let dust in. With bikes, we used to do it before EVERY race. Even if you have 2 in a day, we would clean the filters twice. Might seem excessive but better safe than sorry.

Hey dustin7837, what kind of bikes did you race? Do you still? My Dad and I ran a Husky/Maico shop for about 17 yrs. Now I race/ride KTM, but at a much slower pace.

ME and few buddies just raced in a local league here in alberta, Just a 125cc 2 stroke class. It was fairly loose on the restrictions but decently organized. I used to race a honda CR 125 but I got out of it as I was working pretty much every weekend and never had much chance to race. I traded in my 125 for a CR250 (awsome bike) when I quit racing but I sold that when I came to school
.
Now all I have at home is a 1982 XL 200. lol. And a 69 CB (or CD not sure) that I am rebuilding. [

Don't get me wrong I am in no way puting down k&n filters. I'm stating they are not made for rc. take a little piece of sand it won't hurt a 125cc engine but you have to remember one thing these engines are around 2.5cc. As far as rb inovations they make a supercharger kit for $180.00 that gives you .01 hp gain, not the most trustworthy people IMHO. But hey if you want to use it go for it not my money your throwing away.
