Default Quick question guys!!!!!!!!!

I have a question about my Cen Subaru.......i was goin crazy trying to figure out the problem wit my car not shifting into second gear and i took apart the spur gears and all that other good stuff and notciced inside the second gear (the small gear i think) that there is a little peice that the clutch is suppose to grip onto.......but it is worn out......then i looked at the direction in which lil clutch thingy is suppose to spin and open up and drip the second gear it looks like its backwards......could the clutch be installed backwards??? or is it that the inside of the gear is just stripped due to normal wear and tear?? i know for a fact the motor is fine and its not a power problem so it has to be the clutch is installed wrong or just the 2nd gear is messed up. thanx in advace guys!

You will see right by that ledge on the second speed, there is a little metal pin that is to help it still catch if the plastic wears. Your second speed centrifugal clutch could very well be in backwards. Just look at the clutch and look at the second gear and remembering that it will turn counterclockwise when you are looking at it from the front, you want the clutch to open so that it will hit the ledge/pin ,not slide.
Its hard to explain and i dont have mine apart right now to post a pic.

Could you post a pic of the inside of your seond speed spur?

ok here are the pix u requested......now these first 2 pix are of the spur gear......now that lil black stuff u see is some kind of epoxy i bought that my friend recommended but its just temporary to see if that was the problem.

now the other 2 are of the clutch..... do u see the way im openeing the shoe.....is that the way it is suppose to open up?? because if i spin the tires going forward then the clutch spins clockwise like in the pic u can see me lifting up the shoe a lilttle bit.

wut do u think??

SPur has a bit of wear but nothing major. Your clutch is on backwards lol. That "shoe" Should open up so that it snags that piece inside the seond speed spur. Just take that whole alum clutch assembly and put it on the other way. It only takes one grub screw.
Should work me thinks!

Only one way to find out, but from the pics i'm sure thats it.

I have heard the same from many people. I guess the first few CEN products that came out sucked. The newer cens are great, especially for the price.

Now that I reread this whole post at a decent hour (i usually don't get on my PC until about 1 AM), I don't see you mentioning anywhere that you have adjusted the set screw for the shift point...
If you look at the clutch, there are 2 screwholes and one goes straight in and one is on an angle. The one on an angle is for your shift point. If you loosen it off it will shift at lower RPMs. it could just be too tight. You can loosen it off without taking it out by turning the spurs until the hole in the second gear (front one) lines up with the angled hole in the clutch assmbly. Try loosening it off 1/2 turn at a time.
If you look in your owners manual, it will tell you somewhere in there what that set screw should be set at. I can't remember offhand.

I will be ripping into mine tonight so I can check on that clutch position for certain. Your pics are a bit blurry and hard to see.

Will post later.

dustin.. you beat me to the same reply.. It could also be the engine isn't winding out enough... I tune my truck so that it doesn't shift into 2nd gear in the grass because its not necessary.. I have had at times fits with the 2nd gear and it turned out to be mostly engine tuning... also, make sure its not too loose because it sill shift into 2nd almost immediatley and you may not even realize it.. try a simple test... run the car on a stand or hold it while slowly giving it throttle.. you should hear and feel the engine shift into 2nd at about 3/4 throttle..if it shift earlier.. tighten the screw a bit... make sure however that your engine is tuned correctly first...

I realized from looking at your pics tah you have a ct4s or ct5. My subaru is a Funfactor rally. The gears are the same though, just going in different directions.
heres a pic of the back end of my car with the clutch showing which way it opens (proped open with a hex key lol)

Keep in mind that my spurs will be turning Counter clockwise.

Another thing that you may have overlooked is can the arm move out. i had it on mine that the arm siezed and wouldnt move out. Took me ages to realise what i should have first checked.

Just to confirm the way that it is on your picture is the wrong way round. The long section of the arm (measured from the pin) should face the flat on the spur so when the arm is forced out it the spur grips the arm. Having it on the wrong way is probably what has caused the damage to the spur.

hummm.... I have just been looking at your pics and it looks like the clutch was the right way round in your pictures.
ALSO the wear on the step on the spur shows that the clutch has opened and making the car go into second gear. and another thing that shows it was the right way round is when it is put in the wrong way as the shoe comes out it will rub the inside of spur making a big black line inside that lip... or removing it all together. (and i would think you might hear a very fast clicking sound as the shoe bounces on the pin)

So if you have flipped that clutch over put it back.

so to me it sounds like the second gear is coming in to early... which i have done before!
It wont sound like its going into second because the lower RPM the engine is turning... so try turning the screw in little at a time.
Just make sure the engine is upto running temps and running good before messing.

i feel like trashing it and just gettin a truck like my friend was telling me.....i took it to the shop and the guy told me that cen sux
This is nothing to do with CEN it can happen to any car with gears. as for the guy saying cen suck... i dont agree... cen have gotten a bad name though rumors (My Friend ,friends cousins, great grandma drove it onto the M6 and hit a lorry and stipped a spur gear... how **** are cens?? [sm=lol.gif])

Still having problems with my 2nd gear on my Cen FF.... Would work sometimes but then won't engage at all... Currently only running on the first gear.

I've ordered new internals for the clutch as think the spring may need changing
