Default FunFactor not selecting 2nd gear

After getting my new funfactor 4wd (well 2nd hand) I took it for a proper run today.. The car doesn't engage 2nd gear like my last one did.

Any ideas?

Also, as some of you may remember I killed my spur gear on my last funfactor after 10 mins. I found the problem... Seems like a screw has come out causeing the engine to move around which inturn killed the spur gear.

Should have that up and running soon too.

Thanks

Andy

Sounds like yo have to adjust the clutch. Turn the first set screw out 1/4 turns It is probably turned all the way in so it won't engage.[sm=thumbup.gif]

I have removed the clutch unit now.

The arm that comes out seemed stiff, but now has nothing holdign it in. Have I broken it? Or can this be fixed?

Looked at the Cen booklet and screwed all the way in, then out 4 turns which puts it to factory standard

Cheers

Andy

It sounds like you might need some new parts on that bad boy. If you have access to new parts I would change them out.

andy.... take that 2speed clutch look around the edge... you will see a small pin in there somewhere, with a small nail or something lightly tap it out and the shoe will come out... now clean the inside and then take the pin you tapped out and put it in the hole in the shoe it shouldnt be a tight fit... if it is clean it or make the hole bigger.

this parts gotta be the most simple part of the cen, theres not much that can go wrong with it(or is there)

Cen_racer and Craig_b...

Looked at the clutch against the one in my other funfactor and here is no spring action in the faulty one.. Looks like I need to spend £25 on a new one

Thanks

updated the pic.... erm dont ask about the yellow blob...[&:]

anyway... remove the smaller grub screw and you should be able to pick out the spring (i find it easier if you pull the shoe down which makes the spring pop up a little) after the spring is out the ball should just fall out

I see no reason why your way wont work of popping the pin out and pushing the spring and ball out the other side... just watch it dont pop out when you do it and go missing [:'(]

I only put it in the picture to show you how to remove the shoe to clean it if needed

I have checked the clutch and this one has no ball or spring in... So think that's why it's broken then...

Also, when the clutch engages the end gear, does it catch onto the step of plastic? Mine seems to have a wear line cut into that so the gear isn't engaging,, just slipping off.

Anyone got a pic of the inside of that spur gear? And whilst I'm begging for more help.. how do I take the small spur gear off.

Thanks

Andy

how do I take the small spur gear off.
what gears that mate?

Also dont worry about the wear... theres a small pin inset in the plastic.. as long as thats still there the second gear will still work

if i remember cen sells the little springs, I would send them a email just make sure you tell them its for the MT... might have the ball too but you should be able to find one of them easy enough[8D]

Running T44 and T47 spur gears.. unsure why this isnt engaging 2nd gear then... took a working clutch of my other cen funfactor but this isn't allowiing car to hit 2nd...

May remove rear unit from my other cen and try that.. may be another problem.

if theres no spring and ball in the 2 speed clutch, then the truck will be permanantly in 2nd gear. its 1st gear that ur not able to use with the spring being missing. thats why the 2nd gear spur is worn, yet it isnt changing gear. ive had the same thing mate, u really dont notice that much with stock gears and engine.

as was said - get onto cen about it, they should be able to sell u a pack of 3 springs (1 for mt, one fr rally and one for st) and a few balls should be in the pack too. well... they should be able to give u a part number at least. or ebay for a complete 2 speed clutch unit may be a cheaper, quicker option.

if u cant find any - give me a shout mate, ive got a few spares, just cant remember what setup they are for - mt, st or rally... but might work ok for u... good luck either way.

Craig.. As you know alot about these cars can I ask another question???

Replaced both spur gears last night.. Put car back together with the working clutch off car 1 and stil wouldn't select 2nd gear. So tried the whole back end off Car 1 onto car 2.. Still no difference.

Was confused las night as I can't see how the car engages the 2nd gear and dis-engages the 1st gear..

Would it be easier if I took some pics so you understand what I'm having problems with?

Thanks

Andy

Just made a new post that might be of help... Take a look mate[8D]

what car was the working hub from... what car is it that its been fitted to? if i remember the MT has a softer spring in it then the other fun factors... which would make sense as the drive train on the MT will be moving at much lower RPM then the other cen's (because the larger diameter wheels)

Craig,

Both cars are the rally version of Cen's..

Had some progress last night.. after putting the back end spur gears etc back onto my original Cen car we noticed the spring drop out.. So took the clutch apart like you said and put it back together.

I now have 1 working car. I will try and get onto cen for a new spring and ball bearing for car 2..

Thanks for all your help

Andy

Default RE: FunFactor not selecting 2nd gear

hello,

I have hit 2nd gear a few times with my ST. I'm having issues getting the engine to tune. It has slow accelleration and takes a long time to hit 2nd...when it hit's second, it sounds doggy. So far, in order to hit 2nd, I have to lean the engine out, but the engine gets really hot when I do that.

I'm also having issues getting the thing started, so I'm taking the pull start off and going to replace it with a sillivan tiger drive.

Did I read a dirty trans would cause issues?
