nx76 + mt2=??

I have just broke the con-rod in my mt2's nt16. When it was going it was not a fast as I hoped. So this raises the obvious question, Why not bolt in a nx76 from a 1/8th truck?? The parts are more common and there is more support for this popular engine. Because I has more tourque I will be able to run high gearing and rev it less. It could acutually be more effiecent and better for the environment. So can it be done? What transmission would I need to run it. Are there any other incompatabilties to consider?

well...
It is a big engine to fit on the MT2 but it would be sweet.
First off, you would snap the MT2 shafts first time you hit the throttle. So you would need to upgrade to much stronger shafts.
Then you would need the Steel spur gears for the funfactor or use a set of genesis spurs on a funfactor hub and you would have to find some good steel pinions.
I'm not sure the diffs would take the power either. or the center shaft.
I would imagine it's possible, but it would take some extensive modifications.

Firstly I would consider why I was going to do it, if it was beacause you just want to do something DIFFERENT!!!!!... then yea give it a go. If it was because the NT-16 wasnt quite fast enough for ya, then put in a OS CVRX .18, great power and the BEST in reliability and a simple drop right in, while keeping your drivetrain relatively intact.
As for the environment...its simply a massive engine and no matter what you run it in its still gonna spew out more **** than the engine it replaced...cmon does a V8 spew out less **** than a 1800 cc 4 pot, just because you shoe-horned it into your Mazda Miata???
Would be an interesting project tho...but do it because you want to sink your teeth into something big...not just to get more power... there are way easier ways...and way cheaper...

I am willing to consider other engines and I am a big fan of straight bolt replacements. But the OS.18 is only marginally more powerful than the engine I am replacing.(On paper anyway) The Magnum NX has a NX3 engine claiming 3ci displacement. For all that it is 2 mph faster. I have considered the turbo engines but having suffer reliabilty issues already i am reluctant to choose a engine the revs to high 30000 rpms Almost any engine will cost about the same whether it is .18 or .46 you are only looking at a few dollars difference, which is usally to do with the popularity of the unit anyway. The tricky bit is mating it to the car.

A few of us here have the OS 18 and we love em, and dont forget about the puny axles your gonna break unless you do the TMax shaft mod.
I hear the STS .28 is a good engine and only about 135 bucks.

I just got an STS .28 for mine. I was very impressed with the build quality.
Still haven't run it in yet as I am still trying to figure out what to do with my electronics and fuel tank.
All I needed for installing it was a "custom" (sounds better than hommade) header, some CT5 engine mounts, Big block pipe, flywheel, linkage, and then it's just deciding how you want the electronics and fuel tank laid out.

The OS .18 has allot more power than the stock NT .16 regardless of what it says on paper and is a direct replacement. Stock parts will last longer with the OS engine and economy will be better than any big block that you could put in it with the exception of a 4 stroke.
With the power output of the .46 engine you will break allot of parts and you run times will be less than 5 minutes with the stock tank. There is only a limited number of places that you can add a larger tank and then you will only see a marginal improvement in run time.
If you still decide to use the .46 I would recommend,
Alloy brake seat,
Steel pinion gears,
Machined and hardened diff gears with the machined cross shaft,
Some form of axle swap either the Swift mod or the Maxx mod,
The stock chassis flexes a considerable amount with the stock motor so you will need to find a JT chassis or Dr Honda's when he finds the time to make them. You might even be able to use a Magnum chassis with the top plate but then you will need a new center dog bone and the Magnums brake seat.
This is all I can think of right now and I am sure that I am forgetting something. But you are basically going to be spending real close to what a good used Genesis sells for and the truck would almost if not completely be uncontrollable.
