Hi guys,
I just took apart my Nemesis motor to inspect it and to clean things up and seal things up with some gasket maker. What I found was that the piston can go through the sleeve almost till an 1/8 of an inch of the piston is sticking out the top (took the piston and sleeve out to check). Does this mean the piston/sleeve are at the end of their life, or is this normal? The pull start is still plenty hard to pull when the motor is cold, and the motor will ran pretty consistently through a few tanks without dying right before I pulled the engine apart, and temps were around 230-250.
Thanks!
Al

Argh, have you seen a worn piston sleeve from a 7.7 motor specifically? I've had other motors that by the time they had that much clearance, the motor wouldn't run, or only run for a couple mins at a time, but this 7.7 motor is still hauling ass and running well, so it got me wondering if the piston and sleeve have more life than it looks....
I think I may have to order a replacement anyway tho, to have on hand.

on both the nem and gen when they were new i would remove the plug alittle so i could turn the engine over. and a few times when i replaced the plug i would try to turn the engine over and it was very easily pulled. i would put it back together and see what happens, and the worst case you need a new piston and sleeve which is almost the same price as a new engine, lol.

dartmouth,
I just went thru the same thing with my Neme. It wont be long before you wish you had a set on hand instead of waiting until the ingine would not stay running for very long, and overheating. And then suddenly you can't run until the new set arrives...

thanks guys.
When it rains it pours, just had to replace a p/s in my OS18tm in my Revo, but promptly destroyed the new one because the wrist clip managed to work its way loose. Grr.

IF it aint broke, then don't fix it. If the engine still has compression and is running, does it matter where the piston will go? Not really.
I would keep an eye on it and when the engine wont fire or turns off after only a few mins of running, then its time to replace.
