ORIGINAL: CEN Racing

Take pictures and post your CEN Racing car or truck! We would send everyone stickers but we don't have any left after a full year of RC shows! We order stickers and shirts once a year in January so we should have more then.

If you have videos or pictures email them to [email protected]

Why do you want the pics so bad?

I would think they are for the owners rides section. It's nice to see other people race prepping their CENs, gives you ideas for what to do to yours. I reckon I might get extravagant and get the titanium pivot balls from the CT-5, kind of been promising myself these for a while.
P.J. are you really going to run your truck as 2wd?

Why not?

With the .18 in there, I prefer it. No idea how it compares to 4wd in a race... but Im starting to get an idea...

Hmm, ok, now I think about it... didnt take that long... maybe Im on a bit of a loser there... I blame Stella.

Doh! Bugger me, I could run the centre diff chassis as an ST! What was I thinking?

I think before you get to excited you should probably try to find out what the rules are. Here in the states the only way to race an FF is with 2 wheel drive and a small block. A center diff wasn't an option from the factory so we can't run that.
There isn't a 4 wheel drive class that the FF's are legal in either (same goes for the Magnum) so we are kinda out of luck there also. There was talk of a possible class but I believe that it never happened.

For a race setup I would probably use the 13/47 gears on a short track and one with allot of straight aways I would use the 2 speed in maybe a 13/16 pinion and set the shift point to shift when the rpm's are maxed.
I would also recommend the stock shocks versus the buggy shocks for the weight issues. Or maybe use Traxxis Stampede aluminum shocks. I use the Stampede shocks and they are considerably lighter than the buggy shocks. For springs the Traxxis red springs in the rear and Losi silvers in the front would make a nice combination.
If you are going to use 4wd, modded diff cups and the stock cv's would work alright if you limit the down travel on the front shocks.
Kyosho has some diff lube that is for un-sealed diffs that will help with tuning the diffs. I don't know how well it works but it has to be better than heavy auto grease.

Remember a light truck is a fast truck. What we do for bashing reliability isn't necessarily going to cut it on the track.

Here is a link to the rule book.

It looks like the OS .18 isn't legal and you can only use a 75cc tank.

That link is for the old Nitrux series where it was 2wd only, .12-.15 small blocks only, 75cc tank only, specific width, specific length, specific weight, limited cut aways on the body! All these rules meant that the trucks that wee eligible were very limited. This is a brand new series that will support the first ever 1:8 truggy national class. The rules have been relaxed to allow the use of 2 or 4wd, any size engine which apparently includes big block, and mods, any body style. Basically if it is 1:10 scale it will run in the 1:10 class.
As for setup, I am going to take the CEN to the track when possible and seehow the CEN shocks stand up to the abuse. As I mentioned though, I did break two front shocks in two laps last outing!

Definitely 4wd. As a bit of an interesting footnote, the BRCA did run a 4wd class a few years backunder its still strict fuel tank, engine etc rules. The class has a strong following in the midlands and there were four rounds if I remember5 correctly. Most of the entrants ran HPI Nitro MT2s but there were two trucks that caused alot of interest. The magazines reported that they were custom built and referred to them as 'Quandos'. When you do a bit of research you find out that these custom built trucks were in fact derived from................CEN Fun Factors. Not alot of people know that!!

Aha! The quandos! Bloody hell mate... blast from the past there!

I seem to remember they pretty much were FFs, not a lot was really changed - Im off to look at Googles cached pages.

Nice one mate, I forgot all about those. [8D]

ps - with a JT chassis and ARO towers, couldnt you pretty much fool most people into thinking its a custom job?

Yeah maybe but the CEN stickers are going to give me away!!
Those Quandos got some very favourable reactions from factory team drivers who were more used to 1:8 top of the line buggies! Imagine the reputation CEN would have in the U.K. if Irvine/Ripmax had set up a racing team all those years ago!

Aye, just a bit.

The lil old funfactor is a good platform, nice handling and pretty bloody quick too - all as standard. Modding is easy and very effective too. Even the Rally is a sight to be seen mixing it with touring cars (cutting corners and running them over) and the MT had that big one off win over the pond.

Its a bit of a mystery to me why it never took off more on the racing scene. Maybe it was just the FF name and peoples egos that got in the way?

Dammit - we need the JT Racing chassis back available. Sure the Talon/NX chassis is one piece, longer WB etc, but it has no racing pedigree attached to it. So many times has my (stationary) truck been ridiculed, until the JT "stamp" is seen underneath, then its taken a lot more seriously. Daft really, but due to the age group that dominate the market of RC, its to be expected I guess.

The FF, was actually specifically named in the UK rules as being non-eligable to compete in the 1:10 MTs... what does that tell you? Like you say Scouser, if someone with a good racing history/fashionable name got behind it, it would have made a killing. Maybe its not too late for the FFs replacements?

ps - Hint, hint... please...

I agree 100%, that is why I started the 'racing options' thread. I only bought the Savage to be eligible for MT race classes. If there had been a 4wd 1:10 scale class local to me, I would never have bought another truck. Now that there is a local class where the CEN can compete, I have all but forgotten the fully optioned GS truggies I have all ready to race and am concentrating soley on getting the FF up to speed. The truggy class is booming but if CEN want to be considered a true racing marque then surely making a splash in a class traditionally dominated by only two manufacturers would be a good way to get noticed. The 1:10 truck class is huge in the States and would elevate the name quicker than being merely another fish in an already busy fishpond (truggy/buggy class). I can see the attraction of the 1:8 scale classes but I think the newly revamped 1:10 line of trucks should be given some racing pedigree. JT racing went some way to making the FF a credible option but that was years ago now, something to compliment the Magnum/Talon etc line would be a VERY welcome addition to the hop ups list.

Right, all you U.K. drivers who want to enter the BRCA Truggy Nationals in the 1:10 scale class, the dates and venues are in.
Round 1:- Maxbashing track May 20th 2007
Round 2:- J28M1 track June 10th 2007
Round 3:- Ledbury track August 12th 2007
Round 3:- Clanfield track September 30th 2007

Slightly better news for the southern based racers but what you gonna do? Already a whisper that the Quandos might make a comeback!!![X(]

Maxbashing is near Guildford, the others are near Gloucester and one is right on the south coast. J28M1 is near Nottingham. Hope this helps.
