Default GST Transmitter Problem

Hi to all of you, this is my first post as all my other questions have been answered by reading through the threads. I've had my GST for only two weeks now and the only running for one, if i switch on the remote ( Skyion DSX) it gives me an "err 1" on the display. Does anyone know what this is as i have changed the crystals, batteries, you name it. The LHS is baffled, they are now sending it back to CEN but i thought i'd try my luck and see if someone here can help me figure out what is causing the error. Thanx and keep on posting.

the only thing working on the radio is the alarm, it beeps and displayes the error. You can press buttons like you want there is absolutely nothing happening on the radio on car.

Sounds like a defective radio to me, it's unfortunate but I'm sure if you contact CEN Racing they'd be more then happy to help you out. From my first hand experience they're serious about warranty and support, and they'll make it right.

Welcome to the forums, and good luck!

SA is great, we had snow on the highveld for the first timein 27 years. We are not used to this cold, only two months of winter left thank goodness. I was sitting at home last night watching ESPN and couldn't believe that hot dog eating wasx such a big contest in the states. The first five minutes was funny to watch after they stuffed 30 down i was feeling a bit sick, the guy stuffed 66 hotdogs down, damn, thats nasty. till later

To my disappointment, its still not working. No movement, the servo's just twitch. Tested with my other radio and then everything works, definitely the radio again. I took it back to the LHS yesterday and they will send it back to CEN for a replacement. Tried bashing with my other radio but that was a bit tricky, no 3rd channel and unable to reverse the channels meant throttle and steering was wrong way around. Still had some fun once I mastered that.

That's strange, not sure what would cause that but it could be a few things. One thing I noticed while tinkering with my GST is if you tighten down the servo mounts TOO tight the servos act weird. Like when you put your finger on the servo's post where the horn goes it'll twitch like crazy until you take your finger off. Not sure if that's related.

I am picking up my new radio today. I finally received feedback from CEN USA as to what caused the ERR 1 display and subsequently why even after they reset the radio is still did not work. Better late than nether I suppose.

"Thanks for the e-mail. ERR 1 is a critical error message there must be something wrong with the microchip processing board. We will swap the radio out and turn around on radio issues are same day- so you shouldn't have to wait to long. Sorry for the inconvenience and we thank you for your patience.
Thanks for choosing CEN,
Customer Service"

The same day turn around is great...should you live in the states and don't have to wait for international shipping that is. I must however thank CEN for the response and honouring their warranty, even to someone in South Africa.lol. This has eased my mind a lot to know that I will get support from them directly if need be and that I am not totally reliant on my LHS. You definitely have my support now and into the future.

Will check in again on Monday to let you all know how it went this weekend, can't wait to go bashing.

Yeah CEN Racing support is the best, I can't say enough good things about them. They will take care of you for sure.

Too bad most LHS people are tools, and international shipping takes so long.

Good luck!

Well, got there on friday and they did not pick up the radio yet so they gave me another one to use untill they recieve the one from CEN. At the farm i was so eager to get going that i just fueled up and started driving, about a minute in i hit a ditch and hit the reverse on the radio, all good, changed gear again and snap, there goes the shift lever. But it was going forward so i reckoned who needs reverse and i am not about to pack up again. Another minute in and one ramp and there it was, sounded like a load ping and it barely moves. I think the gears are f...ed up now so its fixing time. Well i guess it's all part of it, was a great 2 minutes though.

Replacing the lever isn't too hard, just a little time consuming. The radio they gave you may not have been set up. you want to adjust the radio and shift linkage so that it doesn't over travel. It prob did and the 144 oz servo snapped the shift lever, which could and should be stronger. I changed to an M8 radio and went brain dead and did the same thing, so your not alone out there.

Sounds to me like the reverse servo was constantly pushing on the shift lever, it takes a lot to break it.. That shouldn't be too hard to fix though. I don't think I would run it with it broken though as the reverse servo linkage keeps spring pressure on that lever to keep it in gear. Think of it like a shifter on your car that you have to hold into gear, it won't stay on it's own..

Hopefully you get it fixed quick and are back out thrashing again soon.

That is my problem nomo, i broke after shifting back to forward and i was not aware of this. After the jump it tried to shift back to reverse because there wasn't any pressure on the lever anymore. I just heard the gears trying to shift, when i got to the car it was too late. Lesson learned and school fees to be paid, won't make that mistake again. When you spin the rear wheels the front ones don't turn anymore which tells me either something in the center transmission or the diff has gone. Will be opening it up to see what went wrong and what's it going to cost.

For what it's worth, I felt the need to adjust my reverse servo tension, the springs were set really really tight and were fully compressed between the "stopper" on the linkage and the shifter arm, so I loosened up the spring while it was set to forward, and set the spring tension firm to keep the arm in gear during some good bumps but not so much that the spring was completely smashed and fully compressed up against the arm like it was. I then shifted to reverse and set that spring the same way..

So far so good, the servo sounds a lot happier when switching and I haven't broken a shifter arm yet, or had any issues with it.

I had everything setup correctly with my original radio, the problem came in with the loan radio. But not to worry, busy fixing the problem. This is the first time actually working on a truck so it is taking some time. Lots of fun, just a bit nerv wrecking sometimes. I just don't have enough light in my "workshop" so i am fitting stronger lights and a spotlight that i have mounted on a retractable shaving mirror. Funny how you start looking at all types of solutions for things when you actually need to focus on getting the truck fixed.

Well Guys, just to let you know that CEN is the BEST. The LHS called me yesterday and asked me to bring the car in. They replaced and installed the shift lever and gear without a cent out of my pocket. Big thanks to CEN and the LHS for the service. I'm as happy as can be, i was struggling a bit so they really saved the day and now i can go bashing again the weekend.
