This may be comploetely obvious but I am confused. On my Matrix's NX-26. There are 3 needles correct.
1. IDLE SCREW: Black angled screw under the carb opening.
2. LOW SPEED NEEDLE: Vertical brass screw on side of carb.
3. HIGH SPEED NEEDLE: Needle inside brass fitting coming out of top of carb at 45 deg angle.
The reason I am asking is I read about and people talk about a "low" a "mid" and a "high" needle. I get confused as to whether the "Low speed needle" is also the "idle needle" and is the "mid" is also the Low speed needle?
I am worried that somehow I am missing a needle on my engine!.
I realize its probably an over obvious question as I am pretty sure there are only three adjustable needles on my NX-26. Idle. Low and High.
any info to help straighten me out would be great! thnx

Some engines have 3 needles plus the idle screw. The third needle is for midrange and is usually found opposite of the low end needle. Most engines are 2 needles plus the idle screw. The black angled screw you are talking about is the idle screw. This adjust the carb opening and raises or lowers the engine idle when in the nuetrual position

Yeah, i think thats been whats confusing me. So is my nx-26 two or three needles aside from the idle screw? I am 99.55 sure its two plus idle. Thats really where my confusion is...

SOILWORK, THANK YOU!!!
So the NX-26 has two adjustable carb needles aside from the HSN and the idle screw? The LSN is on the outboard side of the carb and the mid-range is on the opposite side of the carb on the inboard side of the carb under the throttle linkage?!?! Ugh. I love my matrix, however I am new to nitro. I thought I was getting close to understanding the tune. I can say that I have NEVER adjusted anything aside from the HSN and the outboard LSN!!! This can not be good! Can anyone explain to me the "mid" needle and how I am supposed to be adjusting or tuning that needle I would be VERY thankful!!!
DOGMAN??! ANYONE...???

Mattyb, you have a new PM with image
Here is the image for others to reference
Here is a link to [link=http://www.cenracing.com/downloads/enginemanualv2.zip]CEN's Nitro Tuning Guide[/link]
MattyB you will need to set your carb back to factory settings and start over. Fisrt get your high speed needle set as it feeds both the Mid and Low speed needles, then get the mid range set by running it part throttle and snap the throttle open to check its response, it should rev pretty quick and constistent. Once you get the mid range set, you should not have to tune that needle any further during typical daily tuning. Now set your low speed needle to the engine will idle nice and stable. You may have to adjust the idle screw to keep up the rpm's to nice level for running fast and sudden stops.
I hope this helps

THANKS ALL...
I think I now need to go back to FACTORY STOCK SETTINGS AND START AGAIN! HOWEVER, I dont believe CEN ever speaks of tuning the engines with three (HSN, MID, AND LSN) needles! basically I am confused and need seasoned help. I REALLY wish there were some nitro guys around here that could help me! Thank god I have you guys!

You should never touch the mid needle, (It should remain flush with the carb housing, it's the brass colored needle you can see in the picture) However, my CEN Matrix came with 2 upgrade needle's, and one of them is the LSN and the other is the mid needle. I took out my old needles, and noticed the rubber o rings were ripped apart.. I could also not get the car running with the new needles at all, so I put the o rings from the new needles back onto my old ones, and got her up and running.
