Hi I am a fellow radio controlled truckster. I am just dandy after running my traxxas tmax along with my husband and his newly acquired gst (monster), i might add. The stupid thing had no breaks and it ran right into my leg, i instantly bruised and it took the skin off too. I am soooooooo glad he got his new truck, now can someone help him get it tuned in a hurry.

oohh Sorry about your leg!!! There is story around here somewhere a guy accidentally killed his neighbor's dog with his genesis
Sure, we can help him, thats what we are here for.

LMAO... .................Dagmindy is my wife, I am thurlow.............AKA the idoit who ran into her [
]. Turns out i had more issues with my brakes than i realized. I was running it hard, to see if i was still running hot, and TRIED to pull it up next to her to have her check the engine temp......... Waht a time for my brake linkage to let me know it was missing...........Anyway, i kept asking her if she was crtying or laffing, hard to tell in those instances.......LMAO.......... she was laffing and insisted we sign her up here, so she can bust me more in the future.
@ TRD.......... I WAS running lean, which i dont understand but oh well.................. If i did damage the engine, what does it take to repair, just a piston and sleve or the whole engine?......... I doubt that overheating it only twice was enough to kill it, at least i hope not!!!
ADDED: P.S. HOw did her P.O.S T-Maxx kick my butt flat out on pavement????????????????? [&o]

Hey Thurlow, depends on how hot for how long... 360 for 1 tank can reduce its life expectancy. But it is only a piston and sleeve to fix, and you get them on the 'Bay for abour $20-$45. You will know if you killed it if it starts to stall often and overheats alot no matter what tune you put on it.. oh it gets harder to start.
ADDED: prolly a crappy tune, not hittin' third gear, hard to say, what engine in the t-maxx?
P.S. HOw did her P.O.S T-Maxx kick my butt flat out on pavement?????????????????

It's the T-Maxx 3.3 ( the newest one) Not sure of the displacement, but man it's sure is one hot vehicle. Nothing sounds cooler than this thing slappin 2nd gear, and getting it's second wind.
Anyway, im going to do more work with the GST engine, just wanted to kinda make certain i didnt blow 200+ in the engine.
Not really sure how I could have leaned it that badly.
Just for fun, what else would cause overheating? I noticed today that after the tank is about 1/2 empty there are air bubbles in the fuel supply line.......... would that be enough to make trouble? Or is that failry normal?

Have you done the OFNA Check valve mod yet? It cures the half tank lean issue these trucks are known for. It will stabilize the pressure in the tank when you let off the gas suddenlt and it creates steady pressure in the tank for more consistant fuel delivery..
ADDED: I heard the 3.3 is an engine to be reckoned with!!!

Wow thanks a ton TRD
Looks like i have yet another mod to handle probably order it tommorrow.
As for the 3.3 it definitely kicks azz.
thurlow
this is from dagmindy: I love my 3.3, it is enough for me to handle and work on. It is a tough truck and takes a good flipping very well.
Is [link=http://www.killerhobbies.com/items/nitro-products/nitro-accessories/ofna-fuel-filter-with-primer-pump-ofn10168-detail.htm]this[/link] the part you mean for the check valve?

TRD's check valve solution works like a charm, I installed the primer pump/check valve and an Ofna fuel filter while I was at it, and it made a world of difference.. My engine temps hardly vary at all, maybe 10F or so.. As for mounting it you may have to get creative, I screwed mine into the side of the chassis using one of the transmission screws right next to the handle, seems like the best place.
I have a cousin who is local to me who owns a T-Maxx, I've yet to run my GST up against him because he keeps blowing it up before I get a chance to, last I heard he cut his antenna and didn't test the range, 10ft later it was cruisin oh at around FULL throttle directly for the nearest curb.. One month and an entirely new front end later he's almost ready to run it, I'll be sure to let you guys know how it turns out.....

After installing the check valve and going through a couple of tuning sessions, i finally have a good tune. It idles forever without stalling. now the rotostart back plate decided it was going crap the bed, I noticed the the starter pinion does'nt line up fully with the openings in the rear shock tower so when you start it, the backplate is taking some uneven force. The starter pinion is embedded all crooked. Kind of like the same effect as when you put a hex key in a hex screw, if your not holding the hex key at the right angle you will strip the head. CEn said they will warranty the backplate, but I ordered one so I will have a spare.
