Default Head screws

Well i went to the sand dunes today for a bashing session with my Nemesis and the first couple of tanks it was over heating big time, reaching temps of 350 and and the heat sink was smoking like crazy, well come to find out the heat sink screws were a little loose so i tightened and themps dropped down to normal the rest of the day. When I got home I wanted to pull the heat sink off and inspect the piston and head button, but now three of the screws are stripped at the the head and the hex wrench just spins in the screw. Now my options are to drill the screws out or to cut the heatsink with a dremmel and remove the screw with a pair of pliers. Now I have two engines with this problem.

My question is, is there a type of screw that is more resistant to stripping than the stock srews Thanks!

Where are these heat sink screws located? (please forgive me for I'm new to Nitro...kind of). The Matrix buggy has a heating issue as well and I wonder if loose screws could be the culprit to that also.

They are the screws the bolt the cooling head to the engine..if you look at your engine from the top you will see some holes in the cooling head, that is were the screws are. You will need a 2.5mm hex driver or a wrench. Be careful not to put to much torque on them or you will strip them as I did

Hey Soilwork, I have not had that bad luck,,yet.. but I have a nova racing head on my Nemesis, that doesn't mean much except I will not damage the headto get it off. I would try a little trick I used once awhile back try to find a small torx bit that does not quite fit in the hex opening but its close when you find one screw down the engine and mount to your work bench so it is firmly planted, then take that torx driver and center it on the hex opening and try to align it with the points of the hex the best you can. Now take a hammer and drive it he torx driver into the hex of the screw. it will go if you chose the right size torx. Once you have the torx driver firmly planted in the hex, now heat the engine block with a high powered heat gun or propane torch. When the engine block is hot enough try to turn the screws counterclockwise. With the block heated the screws should back out fairly easily. The trok driveer should be of good quality so it will cut into the hex without being damaged itself. You can now replace your screws with good titanium screws. If you like I will check my local hardware specialty warehouse for the screws.

Hope this makes sense. Let me know if have any other questions....

Not sure they will be long enough to reach down in the head...But Duh!!! Yeah a Micro GraIt #4 Will do it if you can get a grip on the GraBit..

Thats why I suggested the torx driver,, its longer...

Good luck, Let us know what works, soil

sometimes a reverse drill bit will do the job. I've used them on 1:1 rods
