The engine on my CT5 (NX-15) is smoking. Why is this? It's not too lean. I tuned it high end: two turns out from fully closed and carb needle: 1/2 turn to 1 turn in. Is this correct? Is it just smoking because of moisture on the engine or what?
I contacted Cen Racing in an email and never got a response!! I have sent 2 emails about problems. One about how to tighten the flywheel and the other about this. I got no response.
I actually wrote 10-15 emails about asking questions about the ct5 before I purchased this and they ALWAYS wrote back but when there is a problem they don't seem to write back!!!
Please help Cen Racing.

Hey Cen i tried to reply to your email regarding this issue and it returned to me saying your email address was bad if your carb setting what you said "I tuned it high end: two turns out from fully closed" that is way to lean and your over heating your motor which in turn is causing your motor to smoke Here is the factory settings for that motor Top end-3 turns out Bottom
end---4 in from flush that will be for a good running motor.

I set it to 3 turns out and it was way too rich.
It's very humid in new jersey.
Maybe it was because the carb was set too far out.
I had called cen and they said that the factory carb setting is flush not 4 turns in.

I just tested it with the factory settings except I changed the high end to: 2-3/4 turns out. I idled a tank (I also lifted the car up and let the wheels spin freely with engine powering). It was better but started smoking around 1/3 of the way through the tank so I pinched the fuel line. The tempature of the air was 77F and the humidity was 55% (It feels like more). Do you know what the problem could be?
I have been getting 20-25minute runtimes with it tuned right and no smoking. Is this normal. Also, I got this car in July and am still on the first glow plug. I didn't think they would last this long.

It could be leaking through the backplate or the carb..A engine runnig real hot is somtimes caused by a airleak. This can be fixed by sealing the engine with sensor safe rtv gasket maker found in the automotive store...there is guide on how to seal a engine. I will post the link

just what I was thinking soil!! He means an airleak anywhere on, in or around the engine.. Check the carb fitment, check the back plate where the pull start passes thru, check the front bearing for excessive fuel leaking out(Thus air leaking in), check the head gasket, check the exhaust gasket for tears, check the air line going to the engine for air bubbles, check the fuel tank for holding pressure and finally check the exhaust nipple to see if its plugged. But a smal airleak can be big troubles!!
Good Call Soilwork!!

I would check this one simple thing first before you do anything else. Make sure that the bolts for the cooling head are tight. Theese screws alone being loose can cause a engine to jump up into the 300s and run eratically.

Just ran a tank through with idling and running wheels with no weight. It smoked within 1 or 2 minutes. When I prime the engine I put my fingers over the exhaust and pull the pull start. I heard a noise that sounded as if it was sucking something out (can't describe much more). I noticed that the cooling head was at least 2mm from the engine. Should it be completly attached? Thanks guys

there is a 2mm gap between the cooling head and the engine.

I think I found the problem today. The air filter was coming out of its holder (for lack of a much better word). I put it in closer and it works fine. No smoking at all. I guess the last couple times I put the air filter back in I never did it correctly!
