ffs034... is it really steel? ive killed all mine and thrown them away, otherwise id try a magnet on it to see if it is steel. they dont last 2 minutes either, they are just too thin. even with a .18 fitted.

ofna pinions work very well tho, but take a bit of fiddling to get them to align properly with the spurs.

I asked on the CEN forum on cenracing.com and they have no plans to make different ratio steel pinions :(

I think we need to all add to dustins thread on cenracing so that the bosses there can be shown that there is a real interest for some more better steel pinions.

RE: Steel Spur Gears for Fun Factor Series

The FFS034 was released with the Magnum or atleast wasn't listed untill the Magnum was released. I don't think that anyone has tried it yet or could verify that it is indeed steel.

I have yet to find a steel pinion that threads onto the M10 protion of the clutch bell.
Here is a copy of a post that I made on page 2 of Poor Judgements half shaft thread that might help.

"Here are the results of this weekends travels. I was primarily concerend with the m12 portion of the clutchbell and replacement bells.
Each one of the parts mentioned I have actually handled and tried, measured, and/or compared. I didn't find any steel pinions that will thread onto the stock bell sorry.
Some of these pinions are to large unless you want to go scary fast. The stock MT2 uses a 3 gear difference (13/16) and the Genesis uses a 4 gear difference(15/19).

These pinion gears will thread on to the m12 portion of the CEN 2 speed bell. Some are to thick and need to be modified or shimmed accordingly.

Diagram of how the clutch bell is assembled
http://www.hpiracing.com/graphics/in...I-72516-P1.jpg

Where the spacers are used use your clutch bell bearings instead.
If it is put on your motor as the diagram says the shaft might be to long for the CEN motor and it is to long for the O.S. motor. The shaft needs to shortened on the part where it threads on to the crank by approx. 1-1.5mm's. If you take your time when you shorten it, it will fit without needing any shimming. I am not recomending this mod for motors that are not using the stock CEN flywheel, because I have not tried it on any thing else. The reason I did this is because they are steel clutch bells in the gearing that I want and my LHS has plenty in stock.

I am sure there are a lot more but this is all I could find and I hope that this information is usefull."

I am still using the 11/14 HPI bells to this day and I haven't had to replace it yet

RE: Steel Spur Gears for Fun Factor Series

The FFS034 was released with the Magnum
it wasnt mate, ive got the packaging here from 2 FFS034s that i bought a good while before the new truck came out.

but anyway - steel pinions to fit the m10 thread are available from hobao or ofna. its the first gear pinions from the 2 speed hyper 10 that will work. i think they start at 13t iirc, yep 13t, just found one on my workbench. lost my links and part numbers tho, sorry.

cen really could do with steel stock ratios, i agree. but like i said, the cen 14/17t steel one piece bell should be ok with an .18 fitted. but forget that... hpi have our answer...as i just read the last bit of ur post rolland... http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPU15&P=7 that will cure everyones problems with stock steel spurs. well done mate, i think i missed that!

RE: Steel Spur Gears for Fun Factor Series

You ruled out the HPI bell when you were doing the big block because of the needle bearings and possible heat related issues.
But so far the 11/14 has held up fine with my OS .18.

The FFS034 wasn't listed in any of the catalogs or replacement FF parts lists that I have been able to find until the new truck came out.
So are they steel or aluminum?

RE: Steel Spur Gears for Fun Factor Series

i never had one long enough for it to rust mate if they are steel! they are black in colour, just like the stock 11/14t complete bells 11t. so i would say that they are aluminium.

i had right problems sourcing the ffs034 here in the uk. i was told it was a US part only... madness, then told the part didnt exist, so i gave up and bought them from a guy in hong kong in the end, who knew what i was talking about.

ah thats right - it was the plastic part that held the needles that put me off. bugger forgot about that, i doubt they would appreciate a bb.

RE: Steel Spur Gears for Fun Factor Series

i used to have a tamiya with a needle bearing that had a plastic cage that always melted to i replaced the bearing with 3 normal clutch bearings and it lasted forever!

(just noticed rolland has made 666 posts! dont trust him ;))

RE: Steel Spur Gears for Fun Factor Series

Here I'll fix that number.

It is possible to use 3 regular clutch bearings in place of the roller bearings. You will need 5 clutch bell bearings instead 2 and the roller pin bearing.
