NOTHING FLIES LIKE A CLASSIC PATTERN AIRPLANE.
I took the Vertigo out for it's 20th, 21st and 22nd flight yesterday. It was one of those rare calm days where you could tell exactly what the airplane was doing and how it tracks. Nothing flies like a dialed in classic bird. Nothing. It is very fulfilling to be able to fly the maneuvers the the "Big Boys" flew back in the day, and even occasionally make it look good. A solid tracking airplane has a commanding presence in the air. Many who were in attendance had unsolicited praise for the aircraft's flight performance. Most had never seen an aircraft like this fly. There were a few who remembered these from back in the day. It is pleasing to see warm recollections, it makes it all the more worthwhile. I wanted to share this with you all, it is encouraging to be perceived as a positive instead of a nuisance.
The Classic Pattern Get-Together is still on track. I have not yet received an answer regarding overnight camping. The land used to belong to the County, they recently transferred it to the adjoining State University, so the PTB are dealing with new overlords. Hopefully, we will be able to cultivate a positive relationship with them as well. So keep the faith Bro's, and I look forward to meeting you in person next month.
Best regards,
Robert

RE: Overnight Camping:
I should have a definitive answer regarding overnight camping today sometime. The club is working these kinds of details with the new "landlords". I will post up the news as soon as I can.
Now it is getting close enough to begin praying for good weather!

Overnight camping at the field will not be available. The club is still wrangling with the new overlords, and it does not look like this issue will be resolved in time for this event. If an overnight stay is a requisite for your attendance, please PM me and I will help with alternate arrangements.

Sounds like fun, I'd like to join you guys. I got a Tsunami that fly's real well, an old Avance arf and a Tower kaos arf.
The Tsunami isn't really CP and the Avance probably isn't old enough, but the kaos should qualify.
I'm looking forward to meeting you all and seeing some good old fashion pattern.
Hope to see this become a regular thing, it would give me motivation to build the half dozen old pattern kits I have sitting around and a reason to buy more.

VC, come on down, bring what ya got. An old school airplane is not required. It is more about the flying than the airplane. I have a buddy that is bringing his Venus II. All are welcome.

I'm planning on driving down Friday to be there for Saturday.
We are planning on adding Classic pattern to our Pattern Contest on October 1st and 2nd. It's at the Antelope Valley Tailwinds club field. Info on the field at www.avti.org. I hope to talk to all at this gathering and see what classes to hold. Right now I'm thinking BPA Sportsman and Masters. But we can add the others if there is enough interest. BTW, the BPA patterns will be added to the scoring program we use. Should be available to all once it's done.
I'll be bringing my H-9 Phoenix 7 and my old Contender just for fun. Probably bring my current pattern model also. Looking forward to it!

The time is drawing near!
Weather Channel says: Partly cloudy, High of 65 degrees, wind 10MPH SW.
A fairly standard day for us, a bit cooler than normal.
Probability of an awesome day: 100%
Food: Food is available fairly close by. The locals can direct us. I am brown bagging it myself. I will have a cooler with water & sodas to share.

Tony,
The field is open from 8:30 til ??? 7 days a week. Come and make yourself at home. If the gate is locked, call the field phone (805-482-3034). There will likely be someone there (lots of retired guys in our club). If not, call me at 805-338-0200, and I will slip away from work to let you in.
Attached: Map to airfield.

Scott,
Sorry that you cannot make it. Thanks for your support. The prospective turnout looks great, and the weather forecast is good. This has turned out to become a big deal, and let's pray that is the start of many more things to come "out west".

Start driving buddy. I'll be there all day and I have two gallons to 20/20 to burn!
We're going to get professional video of the event that we plan to share with everybody. You'll get your wish, won't even cost you a dime!
In the mean time, this ought to hold you over.

The Classic Pattern Get-Together is now in the history books. To state that it was an unqualified success is putting it mildly.
First, let me extend my thanks to my club, the Channel Islands Condors. They have been supportive and showed interest from the beginning. We are a club with diverse interests, and let me tell you from past experience with other clubs, that they are unique in that there is no in-fighting or one sub group or interest trying to dominate another. That is rare, and is a treasure.
Second, thank you to all who attended the get-together. It has been decades since I served witness to such a positive and enthusiastic bunch of people. It proves true my long held belief that there exists a substantive but hidden population of people passionately longing to fly pattern the way it was intended to be. All that was/is needed is an outlet and opportunity for that desire to be manifested. Now the ball is rolling, and let us keep up and increase the momentum.
I counted 25 airplanes! Not all were classics, but that is irrelevant, at least for now. A volume of photos and video were taken. All are encouraged to post and share not only their pics, but there experiences and feedback. Much was done right, and some criticisms will surely emerge. Overall, the basic goals of this program were met. Some of the club "brass" were present and were impressed by the turnout, and enthusiasm.
I will post my stuff in relevant chunks. All right all of you classic pattern dudes out there in other parts of the country, we have set the bar- now it is YOUR turn to step up to the plate and push Classic Pattern forward to it's rightful position in the great world of R/C. The hobby needs it (soapbox- because it is buried under a thick layer of mundane).
