Here's my TOC ship. It has more holes in it now and I'm probably going to remove the ABS turtledeck and build one up from sticks.
Other one is Mark Radcliff's original Super Fli flown at the 1978 TOC being inducted into the AMA Museum. It's last flight was at last years Chicagoland Classic. It has a 90 and weighed 9 pounds so that's why I think I can get away with a 1.08 in the Laser.

Glad to hear the club decided to host the event again in 2011. I have a TH Kaos that arrived last week that I'm putting together for this year's event. Looking forward to participating in my first pattern competition.

I'm on the west side of town. Off Orchard Rd. 1/2 mile West of Randall Rd. I've been a member of FVAC since 2007. I've flown casually up till now. Wanted to get into something competitive that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg (rules out ballistic pattern and IMAC). I thought classic pattern would be fun and not break the bank. So, here we go....

fly-24,
Trust me, I know the "cost and arm and a leg" thing to well (mostly). You're really close, I'm just east of Randall, south of Oak Street. I fly down at the Aurora Barnstormers field off of Hankes Rd. You can fly, compete,do well, and enjoy fantastic comraderie with nothing morethan a &ower Kaos 40!
I started getting fully engaged in RC again about two years ago,and now it really is "So, here we go". Welcome and hope to meet up with you soon.

More exciting updates from Rusty on his Chicagoland Classic Pattern Contest...
"Classic TOC"...a new classic pattern class.
The Tournament of Champions may be THE most influential event ever created...in the world of radio control precision aerobatics. !n 1978, the format was changed, mandating the use of models with a scale outline (15% maximum deviation) and flying full scale aeobatic sequences in an aerobatic "box".
I endeavor to create a new class called "Classic TOC" which is outlined in the attached article (please publish everywhere with my permission!)
The most popular model was the Akromaster designed by Ed Keck. A group of my pals that I call "Rusty's Elves" have created a semi-kit consisting of laser cut wood and foam wing/stab. They created both a glow version per the original Webra .91 and an "E" version that I am using an Electri-Fly 120 on 5S/6S with removable hatch.
Complete rules and stuff are in the works courtesy of the original materials from Mark Radcliff.

<div class="smallfont">More from the 2011 Chicagoland Classic Pattern Championships</div><hr size="1" style="color: rgb(167, 167, 167); background-color: rgb(167, 167, 167);" /><div id="post_message_17200926">Classic TOC...a few photos of models.
1978 entries included the Akromaster (6), Zlin 526 (2) and the Laser 200. Model Airplane News published the Akromaster and Laser 200 with the plans still available. Semi kits are available through pals of Rusty for the Akromaster, Zlin and Laser. Rusty simply wants to create participation...participation comes from modelers building the models and need kits!
Hanno Prettner flew the largest Dalotel in 1978, was about 10% smaller in 1980 and the smallest in 1982 (picture shown). Bridi subsequently received permission from Hanno for a kit...Bridi sold the company to Great Planes and Great Planes produced the kits.
I have the original Great Planes demo model and sample packing kit as a gift from my long time pal Don Anderson. My model is in the process of being restored and will have an original Webra .91 gear drive.

I think that the Chicagoland Classic is going to be really great this year with the added event and more publicity. Can't wait.

I plan to be there again this year. Will be flying my Saturn again. I think I found the problem with my OPS engine going lean on the up lines last year. The vent/muffler presssure tube was against the tank top almost shutting it off. Also replaced engine bearings. Retracts should be working also.
I think my son, Nick, will also be flying this year.

Paul, thanks for the info, just wondering; I know I could do a search but does anybody know off hand where plans for the TOC planes might be purchased? Thanks ahead of time, Pete

Pete,
I don't. But the Laser, Acromaster and Dalotel each have a Rusty thread here on RCU from last year and some had links to plans and mag articles, etc.

Tiporare 750 1981 "Replica"
The following thread will be the third in a series recreating FAI world championship models or those that competed in an FAI WC.
Goal: To recreate the model as close to the original as possible including, construction materials, engine, muffler/exhaust system, control features, color scheme and decoration.
Subject #3: Dave Brown Tiporare 750 1981 USA FAI team member
Kit: Dick Hanson
Builder: Dick Hanson
Paint/covering: Custom by Dave Guerin
Decoration: Rusty Dose
Equipment Installation: Rusty Dose
Notes: This model was purchased on E-Bay during the Fall of 2010 for around $700 plus shipping from the original customer. The model was contracted and delivered around 1982. The model is an authentic 'Hanson built" model, by the original designer Dick Hanson. The package included Dick's infamous hand written notes and instructions as well as his original hand written instructions.
The model is for the Tiporare 750, which according to T. Frakowiak, was not flown by D. Brown at the 1981 WC...

Hi David,
I wish i could attend This great event this year but i`m not going to make it,however i will definitley try and be there for the next one.
I love these sleek, classic, ballistic and awesome looking planes.I`m working on getting a ModelTech Calypso and need some help on knowing if the Yellow Aircraft CAP 10B falls on the classic TOC list of eligible planes for the contest.
Regards.
Greg.
