Template heaven!

Brian,
Here are the files for the root & tip templates that I made for my UFO build. Since RCU doesn't support DXF attachments, the .txt file is actually a DXF in disguise. If you rename that file with a .dxf extension you'll have the template files in a format that your friend should be able to use. The PDF file also includes a wing plan form with dimensions.

Brian,
No... no question in my mind about "cheating". Just wanted to clarify, since there was such emphasis on "you get what's on the plans". I was hoping that even though the plans may only show a root and tip, that a full set of templates would be possible.

Brian,
I forgot to mention that I drew the templates for 1/16" sheeting and a 5/16" trailing edge as opposed to the 3/32" sheeting and 1/4" trailing edge shown on the UFO plans. It would be easy enough for your friend to revise them if you wanted to go with what is shown on the plans.

The emphasis on "you get what's on the plans" relates to the fact that most templates hand drawn on plans are probably inconsistant with a perfectly symetrical wing. There will be slight inconsistancies. I have been told the Daddy Rabbit ribs are WAY OFF. These would be an example of a set of templates I would want to adjust to make correct. The same would go for something like a Goldberg Extra set of ribs. These are cut WAY OFF. The tip rib doesn't even seem to be the correct rib for the kit.
R_G-
Thanks. Personaly, I'd prefer to use 1/16 sheeting. But, other opinions may differ. I don't think it would be too difficult to change it either.

What's wrong with a laser cut profile. 1/2A LST Trainer ribs.

Great a composite aluminum template more expensive and stronger to cut a pattern for "balsa wood". Seems like overkill. What about a 16 ga crs laser cut pattern.

Okay-
We have definitely run into a snag. I will be learning how to run the cad program Ralph sent me before I can move forward. This is something I always wanted to learn anyhow, so please forgive me, but it will be a while. I will figure this out and let everyone know.
We still have plenty of materials, and the space, and the equipment. It is up to me to learn something 1st. I appreciate everyone's patients.

Brian,
What CAD package are you planning to use?
This is an excellent package if you haven't got one yet: [link=http://www.3ds.com/products/draftsight/free-cad-software/]DraftSight[/link], and the best part is that it's FREE. Every bit as good as AutoCad and it even saves files in the AutoCad .dwg format. I mainly use AutoCad at work, but I've played with DraftSight a little and it is very good. They seem to have very good support as well.

But if you are drawing out the airfoil, profili 2 is better than autocad.

But...
It looks as though DraftSight will save all the info in a DWG file. It doesn't seem to be the case with Profili2. If all I wanted to do was print out the template, Profili2 would suffice.
I have a feeling that Ralph understands the equipment my friend is working with.

True, Profili will not save a drawing file format. But the licensed version (15 EUR or $20.33) can export rib profiles as a dxf file which could be imported and saved in a autocad drawing format.
If you are drawing airfoils in draftsight or autocad, do not create the profile as a spline entity. It must be a pline or small line segments. Some cadcam programs do not recognize spline entities.
Anyway good luck.
