David...

It measured the same as the existing header I already own.. actually, my existing ID measured about 23.5mm, and the Rossi says this one id 24mm. If anything, it should have a tad more room...

Do you think 7mm low is still good enough? It clears clears the top of the fuse with some air underneath according to the plans...

MTK...

I like your suggestion and think I may to this providing I cannot find a coupling system...

It MUST be Christmas in August!!!

I will never build the actual kits, they are WAY too valuable to me personaly. I will be kitting another kit using these parts as templates for each airplane.

A BIG thank you to Jeff (AllTheGoodNamesAreTaken). You truly understand what this does mean to me. Thank you for making this happen for me. I wish I could fly with you. Maybe someday. My RE Super Tigre ought to feel just comfortable under the hood of this bad boy!

This and the Great Escape is the epitome of my hopes in classic pattern building. (I even have kaos plans in the tube between the boxes!)

I have plans for the UFO and the Dirty Birdy. Time to start collecting the Sun Fli series now... I have a set on the way. My collection is wonderfully complete. I think the only thing that will be hard to get now is the Momma Mia plans.

Brian

Hi Brian. Glad the kits made it to you safely. I know you will enjoy them.

I have a pdf of the Sun Fli 5 plans for your collection. Should be about $11 to have it printed at Kinkos.

Brian, in that case we should be golden. 0.5 mm clearance is not much but just right for a thin layer of sealant.

I'm not sure what the 7 mm is referring to. Are you saying the offset of the exhaust and the header top is too shallow? It is 38 mm which is 1.5" or the standard offset for fuse top headers for 61's (same as Macs). If that's your concern, also keep in mind that there will be some downthrust to the engine. This will leave the rear of the header at a slight angle (well, 1-2 degrees - same as the downthrust) which will give you a little additional clearance. Pipes are roughly 2" in OD so as long as the header sits a tad over 1" above the fuse top, you will be able to couple it to the pipe and have the pipe clear the top of the fuse. You won't be able to mount it from underneath but that is ok. You can mount it from the side with a clamp around the pipe and a standoff - Hatori style. But maybe I'm not following your concern.

David.

Glad to see that you are getting equipped!

The Mama Mia plans were published in Model Builder which means they should be available from them - they still sell their plans. Otherwise, if someone has that issue of the magazine, they can be scanned and rendered into something workable. I have a couple of snaps of what was posted in a thread on the model. Interesting comparison between the MM and the DB!

It's possible that Rainedave might have a digital copy of them... not sure. It's a bit of an outrageous model to build for a 60 these days... it would do nicely on a 120 though!

Jeff...

Once again, I am grateful! Thanks for the Sun Fli V plans!

I have the 4 on the way. The 3 is really simple comparatively. I wonder what the 1 and 2 look like....

David-

I am hoping my measurements are accurate. But I think it will work.

My question about the 7mm relates to the plans. I think I'll be fine though. The header looks to sit about 7mm lower than the pipe drawing on the fuse. Actually, I will need to see it when it is assembled. I don't think I'll have anything to worry about...

I should use RTV sealant instead of the silicone tube?

The Mama Mia is crazy... Interesting to see it put next to the Dirty Birdy though!

That would be me ... I'm the Great Escape guy. I'm new to RCU and getting back into flying after 15 years out. I have to say I'm appalled by the ARF'ing of the model aircraftindustry, and I'm like many in this forum - IMUSTBUILD! Among my collection of aircraft, I last flew an UltraSport 60 with an OS 61 SF. Superb flyer but not quite fast enough with the long stroke SF. Somewhereon this forumIfound the set of plans for the Desire 60 and am currently putting together materials for that build. In the meantime decided to build a kitfirst, and saw the GE. I've seen Bridi kits since the 80's and this will be my first. Like the look of the GE, prefer thefoam core wings, like thefuse top pipe, and I already have a set of DB retracts. I have an OS 61 RF and Webra 61 RE to choose from, and leaning towards the short stroke Webra for a bit more speed. But a 91 might be even better ...

I've never flown a pattern contest, but I've always thought pattern aircraft were supremely cool, so now it's time to crank out a few!

These forums are great, so much info andso manyideas!

Well....

I have a great canopy, a new set of 3 gear Spring Air retracts just ordered.. Contest balsa for my wing skins on the way.... Custom cut foam cores... My RE NovaRossi 61 is being bench run and broken in for my by the one and only Mr. Jim Oliver....

Only things I need now are the new "S" shaped header... Servos, on board battery, an AR8000 Spektrum Receiver and a telemetry module with engine temp and rpm sensors..... pull pull, wheels...

Things are looking up! WooHOO! Very eager to fly an Escape.

I am fairly certain my first plan of attack will involve the retract mount to the firewall and fuel tank set up as Mike does his. Gotta get that right this time. Studying his Blue Angel thread pics. Glad they're back!
