Iwill be there again this year with my Atlanta and my Conquest IV that will be newly finished at that point.
Kevin will be coming as well. Two other buddies are thinking about it as well.
It was great fun last year with Robert and his club making all of the screaming 80's pattern flyers feeling very welcome.
Hope to see you all there!!

New development- Interest has been expressed for some friendly "competition" flights be added. Check it here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...1568507&page=2
Ok, here is what I am thinking- we will fly one or two rounds, raw scores so we can figure it out on a scratch pad. It will be fun, plus people will get an idea what classic pattern contest flights actually look like. We will fit it in amongst the other goings on that day. We will use the same schedules as at Bear Mtn. I will post a link so y'all can download and print a copy and start practicing.
You guys that have not flown a contest flight- the old timers will help coach you before hand to prep you if you choose to participate. No pressure- this is still a "non-event". That being said, I encourage you to give it a shot. You may like it.
I have enlisted the help of my lovely wife Jennifer to help out. She does not fly, but she can help out with scoring, etc. Plus she aint bad on the eye.
I ask anyone who is a shutterbug or knows how to operate a video camera to bring it and not be shy. It would be great to have a volume of photo/video documentation to post up.
It's gonna be great!!!

Great teaser, fun for all and a little bit of the contest discipline thrown in, nice. Just what I was thinking. Maybe we'll get a few more guys into it.

That sounds great! I will not be able to make it as I will be flying in an AMA pattern contest in Sacramento but I am sure it will be a blast. I can report that we have four new Classic Pattern planes under construction up here in the north! (3 will be electric!)
Have fun!

The carbon pipe was very cool! For now though, it's mounted on my wall and I have switched over to a Macs pipe like you guys all had working! I hope to fly the P7 soon. I haven't been doing quite as much flying due to some elective ankle surgery. I hope to get the P7 out within the next few weeks with the new pipe. Have fun at the get-together.

Robert if this can be done have the pilots read the rule book & description of the manuevers. Last year at Arvin both sportsman & advance flew the reverse outside loop (loops) wrong. I plan on coming up this year with a P7 & possibly a modified Deception if I get it recovered in time.

Can you clarify the error? There was an error int the advanced call sheet (two inside loops) that threw the judges for a "loop". That issue was resolved, but what of the outside loops?
Gracias,
Robert
PS: Hey y'all, take Bob's suggestion and read the rules and maneuver descriptions on the PDF file. It will help us learn/practice/compete these maneuvers correctly. It does help when we all know what to do!

I started my outside from the top in the first round. Is that possibly the incorrectness?

"Standard" outside loop(s)"
1. At center, push over from level flight and execute the loop(s). Make sure that you are high enough.
2. (optional-Clench your ### tightly closed as you push over.)
3. Release the elevator at the top to re-establish level flight. Maneuver complete. (release clenched body part at this time)
"Reverse" outside loop(s):
1. Execute 1/2 roll to inverted flight. Hold to establish a short level inverted flight segment.
2. At center, push up and execute the loop(s) from the bottom.
3. At the bottom of the loop (or last loop if doing 3), release (most) of the elevator to re-establish level inverted flight. Hold for a segment of equal length to the first.
4. Execute 1/2 roll to level flight. Maneuver complete.

Chris,
That was the mistake I was refering to. You weren't the only one. Another advantage to reading the rule book is it will tell you how to do the manuever & where downgrades can come from.

Hi Robert,
Glad to hear your doing this again. I had a great time last year and definitely plan on attending this time. I'm getting the Dirty Birdy close to being finished up (finally) and hope to have few hours on it before the get together. Can't wait! Nice to see the growing interest in classic pattern.
See you all there.

Well guys it a week away now. I hope that you all have your aircraft tuned up and ready to BLAZE ACROSS THE SKY!!!!!!!!!
Please note the following:
-The airfield is located next to Channel Islands University. CPGT day coincides with commencement day, so there may be some delay getting into the field (traffic). Be patient.
-Food: I suggest "brown bagging" it. There are fast food outlets in the area if you want to go that route.
-The airfield is located a few miles from the coast, it may be a bit chilly in the morning hours. You might want to consider packing a light jacket.
If you are planning on arriving on Friday, and want access to the field, PM me, I will make arrangements to open the gate for you. I work just a few minutes from the airfield, I can let you in. Our new overlords (the University) requires us to keep the gate closed. The gate will be open on Saturday.
See Y'all real soon,
Robert Fish

Doug,
Sometimes a picture is worth MANY more than 1000 words. That Atlanta is OUT OF THIS WORLD ! ! ! What I wouldn't do to see a plane like that fly, especially by someone who knows how to fly it. The only problem is I'm on the wrong coast.......Bummer [&o]
Have fun at the event everyone.

Thanks. I'll have to let someone with real talent fly it to fullfill all your wishes!!
It just recently got better. My buddy Kevin repainted the canopy when the paint started to rub off. The new canopy is WAY nicer than the old one.
