Tony,

SPA will allow an entry into B-Novice with any aircraft you have that meets the wing and engine limitations. I don't have that much experience with the point system but I think you can also use it in the higher levels, you just won't get points for it. Hopefully someone else will chime in to confirm this.

So far I have CD 3 CPA contest and the airplane has not been a problem !!! I think by most part everybody has looked forward to flying the old 60 size airplanes with Retracts and pipes !! The contest we held @ Mac Hodges last year had over 30 Pattern planes and all were era correct .. As a CD I would never turn down a person that wants to compete in our contest, But I would encourage him to buy/build or whatever to get an airplane of that era !! I see more an more guys digging out and building pattern planes just to get a chance to hear that sound and see what we experience back in the golden days of non turnaround pattern !!!

I just want to state that 90% of the changes I plan to make to the Kaos will be structural. That is, it will still look like a Kaos to you but, I will employ a lot of the tricks and techniques that we use in competition control line stunt ships. Case in point, Joe used thick fuselage sides and very few formers. I will employ standard stunt practice with thinner sides and a LOT more formers.

While I do cut my own foam wings, on this outing, I will go with built up wings using jigs I designed to build my stunt ships. I know each right and left panel will come out dead straight, and will stay that way for the life of the ship.

In addition, while I know that there are no appearance or craftsmanship points like we have in stunt, I still plan to pimp it out like it was headed to a local stunt meet. I only build off my plans. The Kaos will be coming off a set of my AutoCAD plans, which I know are dead on.

RC flyers live in an engine dream world. The choices available to them are mind boggling, (and the great prices too!). We have a couple of really good choices for the Kaos. The OS Max 65AX seems to be tailor made for classics ships, and a tough one to beat. As I own and love Saito motors, the 91 would be a know brainer in the nose. I feel these two choices are about as dead nuts reliable as you can get. Plenty of power, and both fully legal.

did you put the plans into CAD yourself? What plan did you base your design on? I'd be interested in seeing a JPG of them if you care to post (or send via PM).

I'd also be interested in following your build since your technique will be coming from the stunt world.

Everything you proposed is fine. Everyone I know builds theirs different. I have a Dirty Birdy carbon fiber wing. The airfoil is correct, the ailerons are the proper size and are hinged with Kevlar which is nowhere near foam and balsa but there's nothing that says how you get there, just get there.
